Some want to ban betting, some want to somehow have me make people pay, and some are just tired of this argument spilling over into multiple threads.

Now I could talk things over with Denny and the staff and start throwing out rules but that's doesn't seem right. Arbitrarily making new rules makes this place seem more like a forum and less like a community. I have always believed and acted like RipCityTwo was and is a community of passionate Blazer fans.

Communities have get togethers, meet and greets, and make friendships that extend beyond the anonymity of the internet. Most importantly a community treats each other with respect and understanding.

These betting disagreements are starting to poison this community and I'm not sure what to do. Personally I love betting and gambling. Hell, my moniker is gambling based. Over the years I myself have made bets on the forum, two were paid and one never was. We regularly have contests and giveaways on here. I'm not in favor of banning bets and gambling in the forum. Bets can be fun and give the winner bragging rights.

@KingAlbertoJrSpeed @HCP @Draco -

As someone who has followed this saga, in my nonbinding opinion, these seem like legit bets to me. Are they something you could take to a small claims court? Don't know, don't care. But @HCP and @Draco in reading the posts it really does seem like you both made bets.

It would be nice if the three of you could come together and settle this. Money? Swag? Is there anyway the three of you can come together and finally put this to bed?


For the rest of you reading this, should we come up with some kind of rules or a way to officiate and certify bets? If for some reason @HCP and @Draco don't want to settle this should we all chip in $10 each to pay @KingAlbertoJrSpeed to make this mess go away?

I'd say all betting between forum members should be done by PM...then it's between them and only them. Problem solved.

That would be the best. There are often threads I have no interest in, and having them show up as an unread thread is annoying. #FWP

You can scroll to the top of the thread and on the top right corner of the thread pane there's an Unwatch Thread option..that's basically a block thread option so you can actually do that now

I mean like block a thread like one would block a poster.
Unfortunately you can still see the thread if it's not being watched.
 
I find betting a lot more fun if I can just not pay up. That frees me to bet my conscience...or, ideally, all sorts of ridiculous things that amuse me.
 
If you make a bet pay up
1 day per dollar ban on unpaid debts $100=100days
Ban HCP
 
I have never mentioned this before. I'm bound by the CBA, as part of our partnership with the Blazers. If I am, HCP most certainly is.

I'm pretty sure gambling is a bad thing to do, wrt the CBA.

Even a $100 bet.

I don't condone betting, but I leave it up to you.

As far as I'm concerned, HCP did something foolish, and it would be a terrible thing to make him pay, make it actual gambling, etc. It's his living on the line here. A reprimand or worse.

I'm also of the mindset that HCP was joking about the betting thing all along.

If he's going to bet, it should be in the $millions, and nobody would have to pay that kind of sum.

HCP has embarrassed himself enough with his 23 win prediction. It is all in good fun. I hope we can keep it that way and move on.

Just make a betting thread for those who want to make bets...I dont give a damn one way or the other...just stop the bitching
 
You know what? I have a bet for everyone on this forum. :) The bet is this:

For those that thought that a draft pick would have been better than the experience of the playoffs, but are now willing to admit they are wrong and believe the playoffs are better, I will buy you a drink at Dr. Jacks. A one time gathering of a mutually determined date, among all those willing to participate. :)

Those who participate must quote their own link at one point stating it is better to get the draft pick than make the playoffs and then they must follow that up with some sort of crow statement. And it must read genuine. :)

I asked @HCP that directly and he never really responded. If that is the case then him being the gentleman that I know him to be he should offer something else to @KingSpeed. Swag? Autograph? Something is better than nothing.
 
we're arguing about a "bet" made on a fucking message board. Some people need new hobbies.

I admit I was wrong, but I don't remember posting it here in the forum. Alas, I wouldn't be able to attend the gathering.
