I need ideas for community service. We need a certain amount of community service hours here at my school in order to graduate (I forget the exact amount, but I think it's like 35 or something). Anyways, I'm just wondering if you guys can give me some ideas on what I can do, since I'm completely clueless. If anyone here has done community service in the past, do you mind sharing it with me? I'm hoping to find something indoors (away from the heat) and I'm hoping for it to be somewhat exciting. I'm also hoping it can be a group thing, so I can do it with a group of friends, and not just by myself, because I have a feeling it could get pretty boring

I'm not exactly going to be busy at all much for the rest of the summer, so I'm hoping to complete it and get it over with, instead of wasting my whole summer away. Because after this year, I'm hoping to get a summer job

I gotta do community service for court, you could try a food bank thats where I went first. Or churches, retirement homes, etc. I'm about to do a court work crew thing that i'm not sure what it is... but I don't know if it's open to everyone.

Find a local community basketball league and volunteer to become a coach or a referee. They're usually very open to this sort of thing.

Doing peer tutoring in school is also very popular.

Find a local academy or organization to join like I did, but they usually have Orientation meetings and such at the begining of the summer. So I don't know if they would still let you in. I'm getting +80 hours, so its a easy and good way, all I have to do is help kids, play with them, help around and such. Whatever you do, don't be Legacy. Call for your own community service don't ask your Dad to leave a message. Lol, its a joke, don't take it serious Legacy.

Go to a hospital or something. Volunteer there.

None of the ways mentioned above are really community service. You should be helping somone less fortunate than you. Go to one of the poorer grade schools in your community and volunteer for afterschool tutoring. That's what I did, and I really benefited from it, court ordered though.

Its really hard to find a volunteer job in an hospital in California. But, it would look realy good on your transcript.

I'm just wondering, what happens gather up tons of community service hours? Does it look better for colleges and stuff?

Yeah ofcourse it does. It shows colleges how while you were going to school you also did other activities. When going to college, they don't focus 100% on your grades, they look at other things like if you worked, did any after school activities, and community service. So yes, its important.

Go help out at the retirement homes where you can happily clean old people's feces for minimal pay. A good start to head into the Waste Management career.

I went to the Christian Social Service store near my house. They give meals to the poor and also provide them with clothes and other neccesities. This is an example of good community service. I'm going for the Bright Futures scholarship and I also need hours. Try finding a soup kitchen or something along those lines. Another thing I was a part of was giving toys and food to immigrant children and families on Christmas. I love helping people and I think the experience you get will be better if your doing something like that rather than just helping at a basketball game or something.

Try Parks and Recreation too. Usually you can volunteer for youth camps, sports, etc.

omg, i wanted to do it in a hospital (20 hours tograduate) the hospital i signed up at is in NY, so i go they tell me i need to sign a release, then i need to get a physical, then i need to take some training course. Then my mom found out that you ened to agree on 100 hours to start so i didn't bother, i think ima volenteer at the Y or something

You can volunteer at the local YMCA.

^You have to be a senior to that, they say 17 years or older. Lol. To make it easier, Brian just go to your community center and ask them.

Reckless driving.

I'm a lazy ass. I just forged my 40 hours saying I did peer tutoring.

At my local YMCA, you have to put in atleast 80 hours because they want dedicated, not just people here to get their 40 and leave. A couple of my friends ended up with jobs right after this that the Y help them find; one getting $15/hr teaching kids how to play basketball at a school

Same. I do actually help out at my temple though from time to time (cause my parents go and volunteer sometimes), but I can't say I actually did it for 40 hours. A lot of my friends forged it as well (the guys anyway). One of my friends actually just got a teacher at our school to forge it for him
