Some people have thrown out different names when comparing Zach Collins, but I'm seeing another long power forward from our past.

Here are their pre-draft measurements:

Player X:
6'10" w/o shoes
6'11 1/4" with shoes.
Weight 234 lbs
Wingspan 7'4 3/4"
Standing reach 9'2"

Collins:
6'10 1/4" w/o shoes
7'0" w/ shoes
Weight 232 lbs
Wingspan 7'1"
Standing reach 9'3"

Stats from freshman season:

Player X:
9.9 ppg
5.9 rebounds
1.1 steals
1.5 blocks
22 minutes per game

Collins:
10.0 ppg
5.9 rebounds
0.5 steals
1.8 blocks
17.2 minutes per game

This player went on to average 15 ppg, 9.2 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and 2 blocks per game as a sophomore before being drafted by the Blazers.

In his rookie season:

Player X averaged 9 ppg, 5 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, and shot 50% from the floor in 22 minutes per game. They only started 22 games in their rookie season.

The next year they went on to average 17.8 ppg, 7.6 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, and shot 48% from the floor as a starter.

Hopefully Collins can follow a similar trajectory (in some ways.)

One thing is for sure, he's not looking like the person they compared him to on draft day - Bill Lambier.

Yeah, that's not really a realistic comparison.

Do you recognize the stats of Player X though?

Not immediately no, but I'm more focused on scarfing this food down before lunch is over.

Thou who shalt not be named.

Shitty personality aside, I see a lot of comparisons between what they did in college, and what they could potentially do in the NBA.

I was trying to find Aldridge's summer league stats, but it's hard to go back that far.

Found em!

Aldridge averaged 11.8 ppg, 7 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1 steal, 1.8 blocks and shot 48% from the floor in 33 minutes per game. He only played in 5 games.

His second summer league was better, but he only played one game:

16 ppg, 11 rebounds, 3 blocks, and he shot 58.3% from the floor.

Comparing Collins to Aldridge in their first summer league:

Aldridge - 11.8 ppg, 7 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1 steal, 1.8 blocks and shot 48% from the floor in 33 minutes per game. He had a 19.77 PER, a 123 ORtg, a 102 DRtg, BLK% of 4.83 and a TS% of 54

Collins - 7.5 ppg, 6.5 rebounds, 1 assist, 2.5 steals, 3 blocks and is shooting 20% from the floor in 29.6 minutes per game. He has a 6.6 PER, a 59.5 ORtg, a 71.5 DRtg, a 9.04 BLK% and a TS% of 22.5.

So in terms of the advanced stats, Collins is elite. Our eyes are not deceiving us. His offense is HORRIBLE, but I'm hoping it will improve.

LaMarsha.

I looked this up right after we drafted Collins, as I had kind of felt like they were similar coming out of college. I like Collins' D and want him to grow on offense, but he can at least slash to the hoop for now. With CJ, Dame, and Nurk on the floor, we don't need a ball-centric PF on the floor, but one that is capable of scoring if need be. It's why I'd highly consider starting one of the rooks at PF if either can play decent D.

The Texas Turncoat?

As as freshman at ND, Laimbeer posted 8.2 pts and 7.9 reb in 19 min. FWIW, Laimbeer averaged only 20 min, 6.4 pts and 5.5 reb as a senior. I'm pretty sure ZCollins would have beat that if he stayed at Gonzaga.

Not fair to compare freshman ZCollins with prime Laimbeer.

It's interesting to look at Rasheed's freshman numbers:

PPG: 9.5
RPG: 6.6
BLK: 1.8
STL: 0.7
AST: 0.5
MPG: 20.9

But Rasheed wasnt playing against Portland State, Pepperdine, Pacific, etc etc on a regular basis.

Dean Smith called Sheed the most NBA ready player coming out of high school he ever saw in all his years of coaching.

So, it's not really surprising that Zach Collins isn't quite up to that level.

Laimbeer was also a 4-year player at Notre Dame, but did not become a starter in the NBA until after the trade deadline his second season when he was nearly 25 years old.

Collins played one year at Gonzaga and has not yet turned 20.

I think it's a little premature to write off the Laimbeer comparisons.
