Competition: best feasible Outlaw trade

Name a trade that gets us a player earning the same or less than Outlaw but who fills more of a need than he does. Prove that the trade works (link to ESPN Trade Machine or, because that hasn't updated players recently, RealGM's tradechecker) and give your rationale, explaining why the new player is more useful than Outlaw.

I'll start:
Outlaw for Raja Bell.

Rationale: Yes, I know Rudy's already uncomfortable, but Bell gives us things we need:
1. He's still a great perimeter defender. Batum can't be our only one.
2. He's a great lockerroom guy (Steve Nash's best friend in the league, too.) He's tough, serious and a winner.
3. He's a deadly spot up 3-point shooter. Rudy is better at step backs, pull ups and coming-off-picks.

(Actually, I've broken my own rules, because Bell earns more than Outlaw. But once Hedo's signed, that doesn't matter, as we don't need to preserve cap space. And I don't know if Larry Brown would like this. But I can see Jordan going for it...)

Are you going to offer a better suggestion?

And we're not looking to get someone who'll necessarily demand the minutes that Outlaw would - we're trying to solve a minutes crunch. Bell is supposed to offer the kind of Derek Fisher figure who gives stirring speeches in the huddle and spurs the young guys on to greatness.

Rudy will definitely not be happy with that, and Raja is no longer the defensive stalwart he once was. The most logical additions to this roster now are a backup big man and starting PG. It seems as if Portland is too keen on Blake to trade him, so that just leaves the second string 4 to consider.

Options:

-Travis for S&T McDyes?
-Travis for S&T Maxiell?
-Travis for S&T Bass?

Any other ideas?

(And apparently Raja Bell will earn too much this year too! Curses! He'll also be 33 by next season, but that's not a big problem for me, as I see his main value as a lockerroom vet and spot-minute role player. Sort of Shane Battier on the cheap.)

I hope so. But that would require Nate loosening up A LOT, because Rudy at the point is a defensive disaster.

I would've been a lot more disappointed before we signed Hedo. But think about it: Blake's weaknesses are penetrating and creating offense. But he doesn't have to do that any more! That's Hedo's job. His strengths meanwhile are decent (he IS better than Rudy, sad to say) backcourt defense and clutch spot-up threes. Those (as we saw with Orlando) are now much more valuable with BOTH Hedo and Brandon to collapse defenses.

Or if not, we can always swap him for Eddie House...

Steve Blake is a terrible defender. There's a reason why our big men were in foul trouble so often. Sergio and Blake can't guard a telephone post. I would agree that Hedo alleviates some of our playmaking troubles from last year, IF he can actually make a decent entry pass to Oden.

I hope first day of practice, Nate asks Hedo, 'So how do we run that side pick and roll play?' I really hope the Blazers put that play in the playbook this season with Greg.

Last year I was not in favor of consolidating becuase I didn't think we needed to. And i beleive I was right. But now we could use a 2-1 and the target certainly screems PG. I think we are fine with BU PF as i see Turk getting some minutes there against 70% of BU PF's and Joel/Greg getting some minutes against the slower bruisers.

As much as I would like things all wrapped up quickly in a nice package, waiting a couple of months isn't a bad option either as it seems like 3 guys go down with injuries every September. But I obviously would be thrilled to throw a shit load at NJ for Harris. (3-1 plus some Euro's)

I like this trade, but what if Chicago doesn't want to do it? I think Outlaw needs to be traded soon, and preferably before training camp. There are just too many wing players now, and I want Rudy to know there will be minutes for him.

The Bulls don't want a "horrific contract." If they were willing to spend a lot on a shooting guard, they'd just have retained Ben Gordon.

So Blake plus Outlaw for Felton signed at 7 million per works. He can hit the occasional three...but do we need another three point shooter? We already shoot the three well enough. Fernandez, Turkoglu (assuming we sign him), Roy, Batum and Webster (assuming he returns) all shoot the three well enough.

He's such a defensive upgrade that I think it'd be worth the drop in three point shooting.

They need to collect assets so they can put together a package for Rubio. Rubio and Rudy would be a nice draw.

I would kill for Devin Harris. I think that we would have a lot to offer, but probably not enough. I'm hesitant to trade Rudy/Batum, but I'm willing to give up Przybilla (sadly, but I would for Harris), Bayless, Outlaw, 1sts, Cash and take back contracts. Still wouldn't be enough though.

I looked for a tough power forward that Portland could trade for, but there isn't really any that would work with Outlaw's 4 million dollar contract.

So really, I don't have a trade for Outlaw. His salary is either too high for most rookies or too low for vets.

Amir Johnson is out because he just got traded a week ago.

Ronnie Turiaf works, but his production is sadly way lower then Outlaw's.

Unless you package Outlaw with another player, he isn't really going to bring much back in return.
