"Brian Grant, the forward once described as the heart and soul of the Trail Blazers in the mid-1990s, will be the grand marshal of this year's KeyBank Grand Floral Parade, the Rose Festival Foundation announced Tuesday.

Grant, nicknamed "The General" on the court and one of the team's most popular players, has early-onset Parkinson's disease, a brain disorder that eventually makes it impossible for a person to control his or her movements. Still strong and agile, the only sign of the disease is trembling in Grant's left hand.

Although the disease is usually seen around age 60, Grant was 36 when diagnosed in 2008. He retired from a 12-year NBA career after the 2005-06 season.

Robert Hansen, the festival's president, said at a Tuesday afternoon gathering at the festival's waterfront headquarters that Grant is ideal to lead the parade because he's positive, consistent and has an infectious spirit."

great news! one of the all time good guys for Portland.

Glad they named him the Rose Festival Grand Marshal. One of my all time favorite Blazers, still remember being so bummed when he went to the heat.

I could be in a great mood and then I'll see Brian Grant on TV and it really bums me out. I absolutely HATE seeing him like this.

How is Brian looking these days? And feeling?

I STILL have my bandaid!

Very cool!

The shakes are pretty constant and noticable; he was on a pre-game show for Game 1 I believe, and I kind of felt for him. He only did one segment I believe.

my friend met brian grant at 1 in the morning last satarday at starz cabaret....hahaha

I said hello to Brian Grant and Chris Dudley at Saturday's game. They were up on the suites level and I thought Brian looked healthy.
