Please. Sather didn't miss out. The consistent feedback from Oilers fans is that Paajarvi is soft and doesn't use his size. So instead of trading for him and waiting for him to figure it out in 3-4 years, he signed a guy in Pouliot who has already started to figure it out a little. Trading for Paajarvi would be dumb after last year. This is a win now team. There was a time I wanted Paajarvi. However, the team can no longer wait for dopes like him to have the light bulb go on.

Trading for Perron would be worse. He's just as soft and he has a 3.8 cap hit over the next 4 years. The Blues are not stupid. The fact they dumped him for a guy that up until this point has been a bust tells you something. With Lundqvist due to get huge money, the FA market next year and Girardi possible looming with a big contract, they can't tie up almost 4 million in a marginal player for the next 4 years. Especially when we have kids like Kreider, Miller, Fast and Lindberg ready to join the team. Difference between those kids and Paajarvi is Paajarvi really does nothing well if he's not scoring. Those kids can come up and help the team win in other ways.

i'm not as down on Perron as you are (sans the injuries). If healthy he could have been our 2nd LW (moving Hags to 3rd, where he belongs) and easily given us 20+ and added scoring depth we really need.

I also don't think his cap hit is that bad. $3.8M for a 2nd line player is very reasonable, and since he's only 25 even if you need to trade him in 2yrs it wouldn't be that hard to unload a 27yo 20+gl scorer for less than $4M.

All my assumptions are based on health, however. If he kept getting hurt every year then yes, we'd be stuck.

Ryan stinks, Perron stinks, come on dump....they're all better than giving Hagelin a top 6 spot.

I'm fine with giving Fast, Miller, Lindberg, etc. looks on the third and fourth lines, but relying on kids like that without 4 legit wingers who WILL score 20+ in the top 6 Im just not very confident we'll have the scoring necessary to make a long run.

Some of you can't seem to grasp the concept this team can't bring in players like that because there is no cap room. Not to mention, you are assuming the offense will be exactly the same with AV coaching as it was with Torts. To me, that is dumb. Ryan and Perron were traded for a reason. IMO, that reason was their ex teams didn't think their production and attitudes were worth their salaries.

I'm not assuming that, I think we'll see better offense from the entire roster under AV including the defense. It just seems to me we're lacking some of the front-end scoring. Maybe if Richards bounces back it won't be an issue.

Or perhaps we are lacking front end scoring because the coach was a moron and we aren't looking at guys like Brassard and Kreider as guys who can chip in 40 goals and 60 assists combined. If you have Nash, Kreider, Cally, Stepan, Brassard and Hagelin on the top 2 lines and you can't score enough goals with that talent, either your system or coach sucks.

This team still lacks the scoring skill other teams ahead of us have. It's really that simple.

If we are a "win now" team, there is no way we should go into a season with 3-4 players in the top 3 lines who are so unproven as scorers in the NHL.

If Kreider plays at a 30 goal level which he is certainly capable of doing with a good offensive coach, nobody will be saying crap about the offense. I said a month ago. The Rangers need to evaluate the team after a couple of months during the season under AV. Then they can see where the offense is.

100pts of Kreider and Brassard is highly optimistic. Brassard has never hit 20gls and if he's going to be getting 15mins on the 3rd line he's not getting 50-60pts. As for Kreider, he comes with a huge question mark as far as "what do we really have in this guy" and 50pts out of him is hugely optimistic for a guy who has 35 pts in almost 100 pro games (AHL, NHL reg season & POs).

I get it, AV will make this a terrific offense and cure cancer during intermission.

Yes, but you have to take the cuffs off at some point and see what you have. You get yourself back into cap trouble when you start running around signing guys you think will score for you meanwhile already have guys who can do the job.

I have no doubt Kreider has the talent to be a 30 goal guy. Just saying that it's dangerous to bank on those numbers when he hasn't done it yet. As this team is currently constructed, we're banking on big numbers from him. But you're right, we'll see how it goes.

i agree, but i, or anyone, is saying we need to gut the team. My point is either Ryan or Perron are proven 20+gl scorers at the NHL level and one of them would have been a great addition to this offense. As a win now team we need to have more "sure things" on the top 2 lines.

You can't win now when you bring in 20 goal scorers for 4 to 5 million and you have no money left for your franchise goalie who then gives you the finger.

Perron has scored 31gls in his latest 105 gms, so that's a 25gl pace over a 82gm season. He can probably get you 25-30gls playing in the 2nd line with Richards/Cally and only costs $3.8M. Plus its not like we would have taken the $3.8M hit because the players going back would provide cap relief. Heck, you get rid of Boyle at $1.7M and you've already covered almost 50% of Perron's cap hit. He is only 25yo so his best years are potentially ahead of him (assuming health).

Henrik is already a $6.9M/yr cap hit so the incremental hit will be no more than $1-$1.5M/yr and with the cap going up next year we could easily fit another $4-5M forward on this roster.
