Yeah, the Democrats tend to win between 85-92% of the black vote. 8-15% of the electorate (black voters who don't vote Democratic) is significant. There have always been black people (influential and otherwise) who claim that the "real racists" are the Democrats. I guess I'm not seeing the special significance to this, that hasn't been there for generations.
disagree completely because I'm not talking about the particulars of crisis. I'm talking about national reaction and response to catastrophic disruptions in what was normal
Dr. Oz is a huckster who got sued for peddling random supplements as solutions to things they have no proven effect on.
It's judicious to put together plans and guidelines to reopen the economy...so everyone has as an idea of how it will work. It is reckless to prematurely instate those plans and cause thousands of unnecessary deaths.
The Republicans got only 7% of the Black vote in 2016. Getting the black vote isn’t as important as Democrats getting theirs.I am confident that the majority of African Americans will vote Democrat in November...as long as they are allowed to vote by the Republicans.
The reopening is just going to backfire. Just watch. Trump has to get the economy going to save his presidency though. It's the only way for him and he knows it. That's why he's fighting so hard. It's judicious to put together plans and guidelines to reopen the economy...so everyone has as an idea of how it will work. Well, okay then but what were the catastrophic circumstance of then and what did it force the average person to do?
I think that because we have changed so much, how we are able to spend our time being self sufficient has completely changed form then to now, this leaving people more vulnerable now with less ability to fend for themselves for a longer duration of time.
The particulars of the crisis determine the mobility of our economy. It it was a crisis of war, we would be kicking it in all gears right now.
The particulars of the crisis absolutely have an impact on how to respond.
ok then...they didn't have the internet, cable TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Youtube, or S2 back then. We have some advantage in particulars (although s2 might not be helping)
and while millions of GI's risked their lives fighting the Axis, now, millions of healthcare workers are risking their lives fighting covid
my main point though OB was that the country has only been on lockdown for a month, at most. Hell, Oregon's stay at home order wasn't in place till March 23...that's a week less than a month. People are acting like things have been locked down for 10 months. It's kind of loopy
I gotcha. and my point is a month is alot longer now than it was back then because of people being more independent. More people grew their own food then and new how to work on their own house then. People were still able to be active and get their necessities handled on their own rather than relying on the economy or the government. So there for they were able to endure much longer.
Maybe you can create an election thread then?Again, can we please keep this one thread about the coronavirus.

Fake news!435 thousand people died of malaria in 2017 and over 90 percent were in Africa.
This is getting ridiculous. We can't stay locked down for a year or 18 months.
People are everywhere here. I'm working.
@Orion Bailey is right. There isn't any way for 330 million people in this country to survive without our economy. Very few of us can grow our own food even if we knew how.
There will be riots and it will not be pretty.
Let's have a nationwide vote and see what the people think.

Did the novel coronavirus originate in a donkey or an elephant?

600 thousand die of heart disease every year. The hospitals are losing money as we speak.Pretty sweet economy coming if hundreds of thousands die
I don't believe those numbers for a second. When do you plan on testing the globe to find out the real number? 6 months? 12?* so far, worldwide, the mortality rate of Covid-19 is 6.6% (5% in USA)
* the mortality rate of the flu is 0.1%
* the mortality rate of Malaria is 0.18%

People die every day.
