then, that's basically 1 in 5 Americans have/had Covid. Like I said, it's not credible to me

It could turn out that's the case in densely populated areas where there's been a major outbreak, like New York, but you can't apply that same rate over the entire US population because conditions vary so widely from place to place.

Probably should be its own thread as this isn't related to coronavirus.

where in the hell did she get the 80,000 dead number? The CDC said 34,000 dead in US in the 2018-19 season. Looks like fake news to me and knowing she's a trump shill the motivation seems pretty clear. But maybe I'm missing something

so then, 34,000 dead in 2018 from flu. And an estimated 24,000 dead this season, when for 2 months of the season vast numbers of Americans have been under stay-at-home orders and have practiced social distancing. I don't see anything surprising in those numbers....except for the 80,000 number and considering the source, even that's not surprising

I think she’s talking about the 2017-18 flu season. One of the worst in the past decade.

Conclusion

CDC estimates that influenza was associated with more than 48.8 million illnesses, more than 22.7 million medical visits, 959,000 hospitalizations, and 79,400 deaths during the 2017–2018 influenza season. This burden was higher than any season since the 2009 pandemic and serves as a reminder of how severe seasonal influenza can be.

right....60,000 dead....not 80,000

the only way she might have got to 80,000 is combine two different flu seasons....which is about 8 months. Covid has been going for 2 months and has matched the 17-18 season for mortality. And really it's only been for a month as there were 'only' 3,200 dead a month ago. In other words, Covid appears like it will just about match the 17-18 flu season's total mortality in 1 month

not according to CDC

Ok, I stand corrected but in my defense I was using the same link:

notice the bottom right hand corner where it said 61,099. I didn't read all of the text and if they corrected it later, seems like they should have corrected in their own chart

still, the main point is that the tweet from candace parker was definitely trying to suggest some flim-flam with numbers. And any examination of how flu mortality can fluctuate from season to season disproves her implication

and why did she use the most deadly flu season in a long time as the gauge instead of last year's flu season (2018-19). That's a rhetorical question because we all know that an 80,000 to 24,000 drop looks more suspicious than a 34,000 to 24,000 drop under 2 months of social distancing

Oregon Health Authority | COVID-19 Updates

Look at the demographics and additional data.

Of 99 deaths in Oregon ,6 under 60 years old, and 0 under 40 means it a disease that primarily is fatal to older people with underlying conditions.

Oregon has too small a sample size to draw solid conclusions....IMO

looking at national numbers from a a couple of weeks ago:

upload_2020-4-29_11-5-57.png

8% of deaths were in people 54 and younger

for sure, older people are more vulnerable, but that's true for almost all illnesses. I'm not sure why it matters unless the argument is in favor of Darwinism as policy

IMHO, it would be hypocritical to advocate opening up society at the expense of any demographic, and still hold claim to the moral high ground of Pro-Life.

Donald Trump claims 5 million tests daily demanded by experts are 'unnecessary' the day after appearing to say U.S. would soon be able to carry them out - and calls hitting that benchmark a 'media trap'
  • President Trump continued to send mixed message about the country's COVID-19 testing capabilities
  • He said a benchmark from a Harvard study of five million tests per day was 'unnecessary' but also said the country could hit it 'pretty easily'
  • The president then complained that questions about hitting that number were 'a media trap'
  • Admiral Brett Giroir, who's responsible for testing, said 'there is absolutely no way on Earth' a five-million-per-day testing rate could happen
  • Asked about the five million figure on Tuesday, Trump said 'we’re going to be there very soon'
  • Asked about the five million figure on Wednesday, Trump said he 'didn't say five million,' and said that figure came from a study

and four years. Four years and nine months.
Book it.

Dems Should have focused on something other than trump. Like a better economic package or better foreign affairs policies but this, “anyone but trump”, is sealing it for Trump.
Americans aren't that dumb.
Just treated dumb during election years...

I now have to add one more to trumps 3 d's. Dodge, deflect, defer and now delusional. Thanks
