Not many actually believe that. The problem seems to be the effectiveness that was touted early in the rollout has fallen short. Now the idea of a booster, or even indefinite boosters, is being kicked around. It’s just not what people expected, because it’s not what they were told. It’s always been known that science changes, so why can’t the people in charge quit presenting every new piece of data as the gospel. That is precisely what’s causing so much aversion to vaccines and mandates. People are barked down and told a set of facts that seems to change within a matter of months, if not days or weeks.

No.

The original covid 19 virus that the vaccines were made to combat the real world numbers have been very close to what was said.

When it comes to fighting the delta variant it is not as effective but still very very effective.

There will be other variants that the original vaccine does not fight as well as it does against the delta variant.

But here is the important part.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE VACCINE IS SOUND!

We have the ability to produce precision boosters to combat individual variants.

You all along have claimed the vaccine isn't working or bad science. You said it was created too quickly. 1 in 500 or 1 in 10. You are better off, our economy is better off, our country is better off with the vaccine than without.

Your arguments against the vaccine have been proven wrong.

This just popped up. Real world data.

COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness against infection fell from 91% to 78% after the Delta variant became dominant, but remained above 90% against hospitalization and death, CDC report finds
  • A new CDC report looked at the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines before and after the Delta variant became the dominant strain in the U.S.
  • Prior to the variant's dominance, the vaccines were 91% effective against infection, 92% effective against hospitalization and 90% effective against death
  • After Delta became dominant, effectiveness against infection fell to 78% but barely dropped against hospitalization and death at 91% and 90%, respectively

If there are people who think the vaccine contains a microchip, or makes you magnetic, or is likely to kill you, then yes, there are going to be people who think it is an impenetrable barrier than allows you to french kiss a dozen covid patients a day and not get sick.

barfo
I actually have a neighbor (very nice lady) who actually believes the microchip thing. I am reluctant to call her stupid or really get into a discussion with her. As I said, she is very nice. So I just told her that the chip going in was the only painful part of the vaccine and that she’d survive once she got past that part. She was not amused and now pretends to be busy when I drive up the alley……..what some people believe……

Unredeemable ass-caterpillar is my favorite part:

Hi, if you are reading this essay then congratulations, you are still alive. And if you are alive, then you have either gotten the COVID-19 vaccine, or you still have the opportunity to get the vaccine against COVID-19. And holy fuck, if you aren’t fucking vaccinated against COVID-19, then you need to get fucking vaccinated right now. I mean, what the fuck? Fuck you. Get vaccinated. Fuck.

The fucking vaccine will not make you magnetic. Are you fucking kidding me? It just fucking won’t. That’s not even a fucking thing, and that lady who tried to pretend the vaccine made her fucking magnetic looked like a real fucking fuckwad and a fucking idiot, so get fucking vaccinated. Jesus. Fuck.

The vaccine also doesn’t have a fucking 5G chip in it. What the fuck do you think a fucking 5G chip is, fucknuts? You think it’s like some invisible nanotechnology they can suspend in a liquid and then just put in your fucking blood and then it what, exactly? Fucking floats around in your body going on Instagram and telling the government you went to the grocery store? No one fucking cares where you go, you absolute fucking fuck-barf. Fuck off with that. Fuck.

Oh, you’re afraid of fucking side effects? Fuck you. You know what has fucking side effects? Fucking aspirin, fucking Tylenol. You could be fucking allergic to pineapple, you fucking fuckwit. Everything has side effects. You’re being a big fucking baby with a huge diaper full of fucking diarrhea, complaining about maybe feeling slightly tired for a day or two while your asymptomatic COVID case you get and pass to some innocent fucking kid could wind up killing them or someone else. Fuck you, you fucking selfish fucking shit-banana, you unredeemable ass-caterpillar, you fucking fuck-knob with two fucks for eyes and a literal poop where your heart should be. You want a two-month-old to wind up on a fucking ventilator instead of you, a fucking adult, getting a fucking sore arm for a day? What are you, a pitcher for the Yankees? A fucking concert pianist? An arm model? Get the fuck out of here! Fuck you. Get vaccinated. Fuck. Fuck you!

You think vaccines don’t fucking work? Oh, fuck off into the trash, you attention-seeking fuckworm-faced shitbutt. This isn’t even a point worth discussing, you fuck-o-rama fuck-stival of ignorance. Vaccines got rid of smallpox and polio and all the other disgusting diseases that used to kill off little fucks like you en masse. Your relatives got fucking vaccinated and let you live, and now here you are signing up to be killed by a fucking disease against which there is a ninety-nine-percent effective vaccine. You fucking moron. Go in the fucking ocean and fuck a piranha. Fuck. Fuck that. Fuck you. Get vaccinated.

Oh, you say you have a genuine allergy or medical condition that prevents you from receiving a fucking vaccine? That’s fine. I’m clearly not talking to you. I fucking love you. Fuck.

Look, if you have been forwarded this essay from a friend or loved one, then there are two possibilities. Either you are a normal, regular, sensible fucking person like me who got fucking vaccinated at the first possible moment, and this essay channels all your fucking rage and sadness and is therefore cathartic OR, and I really hope this isn’t the fucking case, you AREN’T fucking vaccinated, and someone sent it to you because you fucking fucking fuck, you need to get fucking vaccinated. And rather than being fucking offended that someone is trying yet again to get you to take the fucking vaccine, you should understand that someone fucking loves you enough to try one last motherfucking time to get you to take the fucking vaccine before you fuck off to heaven, or hell, or some in-between place that’s just like a fucking mall or something where everything is free, including and especially the soft pretzels. So, congratulations! There is ONE person remaining in your life who wants to fucking save you from drowning in your own fucking lungs, you fucking fuckshit fuckdick, so for god’s sake, get your fucking ass out of your chair, go to the fucking pharmacy, and get a fucking vaccine, you absolute conscienceless fucking fuck fuck fuck. Get it. Get the fucking vaccine. Fuck you. Fuck fuck fuck. Fuck. Fuck you. Fuck!

Well fucking fuck

Biden LITERALLY told the public they wouldn’t get sick if they took the vaccine, and you’re asking if anyone actually believes it.
Bro this is a basketball forum, yet you come on here all day everyday simply to preach against this vaccine. I have one simple question for you and I’d really only like a one word answer.
Are you better off getting the vaccine? Y or N?

Seems like a writer for the New York Times might dig a little deeper for facts, so as not to present information that @EL PRESIDENTE debunks in a matter of minutes. The thing is, I DON’T think the writer is actually that stupid, I think he’s purposely being misleading so as to be able to dubiously extract a headline like the one above. Most people will simply take the headline and run with it, and that’s all you need to push a narrative. As long as this writer can throw his hands up and say “well technically…” at the end of the day then he gets away with it.

fake news is only a conservative trumper thing.

We are all hearing the same things from the same people since this started. How is that some of us hear or read it and just know “well this virus is new and things are going to change and Fauci will adjust as he goes etc” and then other people are like “god dammit you told us on Feb 11 one thing and now it’s another!”? Do we have to dumb everything down for every goddamn thing? For fucks sake we thought it was one shot now it’s two and a booster and we thought vaccinated wouldn’t be contagious then we learned they are. No one is trying to deceive you just listen and do what’s right

El Prez didn't debunk anything. He merely asked a question, and it was even a perfectly reasonable question, not the bad faith "I'm just asking questions!" kind.

Most headlines are written by someone other than the person who writes the text.

It isn't just that the science changes. Sometimes it does, we learn new things, and when we do, a smart person adjusts their viewpoint accordingly.

But it's also that reality changes. We didn't used to have the delta variant. A couple of years ago, covid-19 itself didn't even exist.

Ask yourself this: who has been right about things more often during this pandemic, you, or Fauci?

The answer is Fauci, and it isn't at all close.

Of course he has a much bigger staff than you do (unintentional penis joke there), so that shouldn't be surprising. But it's also unsurprising because he's trying to apply science, rather than trying to find scraps of data that fit his preconceptions.

I think if you actually read/listened to the experts, you'd find them to be quite forthcoming about what we don't yet know.

Are you better off getting the vaccine? Y or N?

People who engage in manic hysteria and outright vitriol are part of what is so off-putting to me, and probably a lot of others who choose not to get the covid shot. It started with a simple decision to opt out of a hastily developed and unapproved treatment, not exactly a controversial decision, and definitely not one that’s anyone’s business but my own. Never cared if anyone else got it or even tried to dissuade anybody from getting it (despite your accusation of me ‘preaching’ against it when all I’ve been doing this entire time is trying to defend my own decision to have a say in the matter and not be punished).

That’s how it started.

It’s now evolved into me drifting farther and farther away from any chance of ever getting it. Looking around at the outright HATE and division this topic causes does NOT persuade me. You may say that it’s my fault, fine. But I won’t be threatened, berated, insulted or punished into making a decision. I’ve been called an anti vaxxer even though my family and I have all our vaccinations, I’ve been called anti-science even though math and science are an integral part of my job, I’ve been informed of all the things that should be taken away from me if I don’t comply (including my livelihood and my fucking children!) I’ve been called stupid by people who I know are morons, I’ve watched people on social media (including this place) LITERALLY CELEBRATE the deaths of those they disagree while rubbing it in and saying I told you so.

Which of these things are supposed to get me to jump on board again? They aren’t great motivators.

And my answer to your question is NO. I don’t feel I’d be any better off if I ran out and got jabbed tomorrow. But I ain’t stopping anyone else either. Do you Boo.

fake news is only a conservative trumper thing.

As someone that works in local media I can tell you this is 100% false. Whenever controversial stories get posted we almost always get comments about it being ‘fake news’ from whatever side it doesn’t favor.

you missed my green font. and a bit of forum history. :)

Idaho is in the midst of out of control outbreak. They are 49th in vaccination. They fired public health director in largest county. There were three candidates to replace him. They included an epidemiologist and an infectious disease expert. They hired an antivaxxer who calls vaccines "needle rape", opposes wearing masks and recommends horse dewormer.

The speaker of the state house wants to call legislature back for a special session to prohibit health care facilities from requiring staff be vaccinated.

But he is so pro life.

A four year old Texas girl died of Covid. Her mother is antivax. She had five children. Now four. Her five month old son is in the hospital with Covid. The mother is still unvaccinated. This is what Abbott calls Texans right to choose.

So what you are saying is that you are sticking with a bad decision that may hurt yourself and your family because random strangers were mean to you on the Internet. That may not be the best plan.

I don't think you should be punished, but I think people should have the right to know that you don't care about keeping them safe.

Unvaccinated people should be treated only until a vaccinated person needs a hospital room.

Then a room should be cleared for the vaccinated person, and the unvaxxed person should be treated in unvaxxed tents or warehouses by the medical professionals who also choose to remain unvaxxed.

No care at all should be diverted from the vaccinated public toward an unvaccinated person.

If this doesn't work out hospitals should just stop taking in unvaccinated people.

This is not a question of punishment, but resources.

The idea of a vaccinated person dying due to lack of resources caused by unvaccinated people is an absolute travesty. The unvaccinated person CHOSE their circumstance.

OK, if its 1/5000 whats the chance for unvaccinated then?

There are at least 2 people here who post that got breakthrough infections. A lot lower than 1/5000. Maybe we're a statistical anomaly.
You can't build statistics out of anecdotes.

Look, this argument has been settled a long time ago by people who actually know their ass from a hole in the ground.

I pray that you are one of the lucky ones who doesn't have to go to the hospital and hog a respirator or worse yet, die.

Title needs updating, mods. It's over 600,000 now and except for children, people who chose to be sick.
The vast majority of those people died before the vaccine even came out, calling them ‘unvaccinated’ is technically true, but also extremely misleading when attempting to use their deaths as a lesson in vaccination.
