Well I have a test in Woodburn on Monday morning. The next available test in Hillsboro/Beaverton is Thursday.

I’ve never really gone that way during rush hour, @SlyPokerDog what should I expect for traffic

I don't live near there but I would install Waze on your smartphone and then set the address and time you have to be there for your test and Waze will tell you what time to leave based on current real-time traffic conditions.

Thanks.

I know you don’t live near there but I consider you an expert on everything. Maybe I hold the dog too high in regard :smiley-pucaodsmijeh

Nice.

DeSantis announces Florida will distribute 1 million at-home COVID-19 tests, knocks Biden's 'failed' promises

The state of Florida doesn't operate any COVID mass testing sites, instead trying to supply counties, cities and private organization with supplies to run their own sites. Except there are counties in his state that haven't receive needed assistance for the increased testing. The mile long lines for tests are a direct result of this. He's just recently declined to reopen state testing facilities. But it's Biden's fault.

This is the guy who has repeatedly downplayed the need for testing (along with everything else that is recommended by medical professionals) and has claimed monoclonal antibody treatments like Regeneron are an effective way to keep people out of the hospital.

This guy has a spokeswoman who just argued that the percentage of cases requiring hospitalization is lower overall than previous variants, even as hospitalizations increased by more than 100 percent compared to last week. Apparently DeSatan and his team don't know how math works.

Contrary to medical advice this guy is still discouraging asymptomatic Floridians from getting tested, because apparently he still doesn't understand that those people can spread the virus. "Not a good use of resources." He just said that people buying up rapid tests and testing without symptoms has created "some of the crunch that you are seeing", yet he still wants to blame the federal government? He seems to want to blame everyone - from Biden to the people he represents - but himself. Sounds like another orange "leader" we had recently.

And has already been said, his state let a million tests expire and now he's bitching about the lack of tests from the federal government.

Meanwhile in Australia.
Did you see the Australian Open outrage over the Djokovic attempt to skirt the laws everybody else has to follow? So much that the Prime Minister backtracked in one day over that protests.....current Australian sentiments..

Picture was referred to your bolded statement about EVERYBODY.
I am not in Australia, so I don't know who is in "outrage" and who is not. I believe you are not in Australia, so maybe you shouldn't use word "everybody". That's all I am saying.
Apparently there are a lot of "dumb fucks" there.
Seems like people on left side listen to left media and totally ignore right and vice versa. Therefore we never meet in the neutral ground. There are smart and stupid statements on both sides. If you watch Australian media you could think that EVERYBODY in Australia want their freedom back, cos it looks like China took them over:)

I am going to take Jansen one shot today (for variety of reasons), so if anyone smart has something to say about them, I'll listen.

The vast majority of Australians have been very happy with the measures that kept us COVID-19 free. As usual it’s the noisy minority that gets the media coverage. Now that our leaders have chosen to let COVID-19 in, their popularity ratings have dropped.

Concerning the Novak Djokovic situation, no one cares if he enters the country or not, we all just want him following the same rules as the rest of us. Preferential treatment for privileged individuals is something that really pisses us Aussies off.

As it normally should.
No matter if it's tennis player over people, AOC on Florida beach or Jenrick happily visiting his parents after urging public to stay at home.

Also, since people on this thread have given multiple anecdotes, I thought I should add a short one myself.

I belong to a community of around 2000+ people (in Portland metro), ranging from young to old, but i'd say at least 25% of which are over 50. Since about May 2020, so 18 months ago, everyone in this community has lived their lives as normal as possible, as in masking where required, but congregating in homes churches etc without masks, and only about 10-15% of them are vaxxed (I'm one of them).

The total number of deaths, total! is 2.

Anecdotal, but people sure love anecdotes in this thread.

Ordinarily, pre-covid, you'd expect about 14 deaths per 2000 (2019 data) in the general population. So if you only have 2 total, you've got a very healthy group.

Edit: Actually, since you specified 18 months, normally you'd expect 21 deaths per 2000 in that timeframe.

You mean, after DeathSantis let a million unused Covid tests expire unused? And after one of the highest case loads of any state? And after his hand picked surgeon general denounced testing, masks, and vaccines? Success!

The current case loads are high all over. Not just Florida. Personally, I don't think he handled the situation irresponsibly. The jury's out on his SG.

The CDC says all 3 vaccines help to fight breakthrough infections - so getting either one is good. They do say that the mRNA vaccines are more effective - but I am sure that whatever reasons you have are important enough for you - so if you choose that one - that's still a good thing to do.

Desantis wasted one million Covid tests intended for low-income and elderly at height of crisis, either intentionally or unwittingly, evil or incompetent.

Care to venture a guess why more folks are moving to Florida than virtually every other state? That's right, because of the reckless, irresponsible behaviors of the governor and other state leaders. Ignorant people.

Or maybe that's a long-term trend that has nothing to do with the current governor at all.

I mean, you've moved around a bit. Did you ever move to a state, or decline to move to a state, specifically because of the governor?

I understand.

This is unscientific, but I've been hearing a lot of chatter about people fleeing other more (COVID-related) restrictive states and moving to Florida. That said, I'm just saying I sure don't think the Governor - and all the DeathSantis stuff - is precluding anyone from moving there.
