If you drive to Hawaii in a semi-truck you don't have to show anything.

Great idea!

We'll be going to Maui next month. We have to show COVID-negative. Do those at-home gov tests suffice for whomever is checking?

Are you not vaxxed? Not trying to open up a debate, but for some reason I thought you were (and if you are, you don’t need a home test).

Yep. fully Vaxxed. But, I believe they (the airlines?) are also asking us to show a negative test within 3 days of boarding the plane.

That’s brand new news to me. Just got back from
2 weeks in Hawaii. That might be a specific requirement of your airline. Didn’t do anything with any testing, just had to register and upload my vax card and travel information here:

https://travel.hawaii.gov/#/

You used to have to take a health survey within 24 hours of departure of the flight that takes you into Hawaii, but they just recently did away with that. Been to Hawaii and back 7-8 times in the past year, and once the vax was available, that was the end of the need to take a test within three days of travel.

Additionally, some airlines ask you to confirm that you do not have COVID, been exposed for x amount of time, etc., but do not require proof of such things (aka “honor system”).

Thanks! I'll check it out.

Good stuff. I had to create an account with the state, upload my vaccine docs, indicate the day/flight, etc. Pretty intuitive. I'm in!

Exactly.

They make it pretty easy. You'll need your QR code from Safe Travels at the airport, then they'll supply a wrist band so that once you land, you don't have to take a test and you proceed right through to your luggage.

Thanks! Hey, did you supply the QR code from the email, or print it out? I printed ours out from the attached PNG file, but it took up most of the 8 1/2 x 11 page! LOL

Yeah, make sure you are pre-screened at your outgoing airport. Some people forget to do this. Otherwise you'll have to stand in line in Hawaii to do it.

You'll also need your Safe Travels to check into your hotel, they ask to see it, you'll have to log back in on your phone.

In Maui, there's a costco right by the airport. You should go there and stock up on stuff, they have local hawaiian snacks, maybe some sunscreen, etc.

I pulled it up on my phone (from my email). They’ll scan it with their iPads.

When pandemic hit and everything shut down, I decided it was a good time to read, or in some cases re-read, all Shakespeare's plays. Finally accomplished that feat. It took awhile because:
1. He wrote a lot of plays
2. Between Elizabethan language and footnotes, they are not a quick read
3. I read a lot of other books during same time period.

But from The First Part of King Henry the Sixth to The Famous History of the Life of King Henry the Eighth, all now read.
The damn poetry can wait.

When my mother died my father gave me her Complete Works of Shakespeare because he figured of all the siblings I was the one most likely to read it. Guess he was right.

God I am so fucking literate I make myself crazy.

You have a good father. Embrace that.

Pfizer Covid vaccine was just 12% effective against omicron in kids 5 to 11, study finds

KEY POINTS
  • New York state officials found the effectiveness of Pfizer's vaccine against Covid infection plummeted from 68% to 12% for children aged 5 to 11 during the omicron surge.
  • The dramatic drop in vaccine effectiveness was likely due to the lower dosage the youngsters received, according to study team members.
  • The data comes as New York City plans to end its school mask mandate by March 7.
