Try to find something you think is credible. Go to a source that has won previous accolades for good journalism such as Pulitzer prizes or Peabody awards or the like. If you don't know how or why to do this then we have found our problem.

Boston University experimented with different variants of the virus, to gain a better understanding on why the Omicron variant was less deadly and what part of the virus causes it to be deadly. They didn't create a new virus that is 80% more deadly. That is misinformation and fear mongering.

It's not a new variant. It killed 80% of mice tested which don't have the same immune systems as humans and doesn't mean it will kill 80% of humans. It's being made into something it's not.

That was where people in the comments of that tweet and other similar articles I looked at after reading yours were going with it.

It's leading people to be afraid of what they are doing when they are working to find better vaccines and answers to how Covid makes people sick so they can stop it. We need that. We don't need fearmongering.

The article you shared accuses/implies Boston University was doing a gain of function study, or in other words trying purposefully to make a deadlier virus. They are not. They are working to understand it better so they can stop it.
