OT Coronavirus: America in chaos, News and Updates. One million Americans dead and counting (2 Viewers)

We're all getting a bit fractious.

I had insomnia last night, nothing to do with COVID-19, I've had bouts of insomnia for years. So this afternoon I dozed off briefly and had a dream about attacking someone at Safeway. I am not violent, tongue lashing but not fists.

No toilet paper, tissues, vinegar, flour, dish detergent to be had.

Man who tried to treat himself with hydroxychloroquine DIES: Couple ate fish tank cleaner thinking it was the malaria drug that Trump is touting as a miracle coronavirus remedy
  • The couple, both in their 60s, were hospitalized after ingesting chloroquine phosphate, an additive often used at aquariums to clean fish tanks
  • The man died and his wife was left in critical condition as a result
  • It's believed that they confused the chemical with hydroxychloroquine, an antimalaria drug that's shown promising results in treating coronavirus patients
  • Banner Health, a non-profit hospital system based in Arizona, issued a statement about the shocking case on Monday
  • In the statement experts warned the public against the use of inappropriate medications and household products to prevent or treat COVID-19
  • President Trump drummed up excitement over hydroxychloroquine when he called the drug a 'game changer' last week
  • But the drug has not yet been proven as effective in treating coronavirus

harsh as it may be, but if you’re taking medical advice from a certified dumb fuck like Trump you reap what you sow

my moms dad was polish (born in Poland). Not sure what it is about that culture but the woman don’t take shit from no one. She has 5 sisters, all with the same mentality.

Embarrassing for me as a kid. Love the hell out of it as an adult

Prince Charles Tests Positive for Coronavirus, Has 'Mild Symptoms' But in 'Good Health'
The 71-year-old and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall are at Birkhall, their Balmoral estate in Scotland

Prince Charles has tested positive for coronavirus, but is in “good health.”

He has continued working at home and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, does not have the virus, a statement issued to PEOPLE says.

A Clarence House spokesperson confirmed the diagnosis in a statement early Wednesday, saying, “The Prince of Wales has tested positive for Coronavirus. He has been displaying mild symptoms but otherwise remains in good health and has been working from home throughout the last few days as usual.”

“The Duchess of Cornwall has also been tested but does not have the virus. In accordance with Government and medical advice, the Prince and the Duchess are now self-isolating at home in Scotland,” the statement continued. “The tests were carried out by the NHS in Aberdeenshire where they met the criteria required for testing.”

The statement Clarence House added, “It is not possible to ascertain from whom the Prince caught the virus owing to the high number of engagements he carried out in his public role during recent weeks.”

Lou Dobbs said Trump must be right on Hydroxychloroquine because he's the president.

Funny, that criterion didn't apply to President Obama.

That NY Times column made me think of all those who don't have such a devoted caregiver. People who live alone, people in custody, with abusive partners.

I’ve been able to find borax in my area when other cleaning products are sold out. It’s a good, very mildly toxic substitute for just about any soap, detergent etc. I use it for just about everything cleaning related, especially now. I think the name scares people.

There is a prominent polish community where I live. Can confirm.

Use it for cleaning all the time, the abrasiveness is a plus!

This is a really cool tool to try to play around with to understand the data: https://www.bing.com/covid

If you simply zoom out, I think there's a very obvious trend forming with countries near and below the equator having fewer fatalities than the countries in colder climates. There are very clear exceptions to this, notably the cold Scandinavian countries managing well (prolly cuz their healthcare systems are freaking awesome) and the low population density. Not sure what's going on in Russia and their low fatalities.

Now that it's spreading to India, that will be the true test of this theory of warm weather mitigating the severity. That's a super dense country with a so-so healthcare infrastructure, but hot as hell. They've started taking drastic approaches to limit spread, but it's easier said than done.

The one caveat in all of this analysis is the availability of tests. Who knows how many people really have it and are dying from it. Given how difficult it has been for the CDC to report accurate info, it's probably magnitudes more difficult in other more poor locations.

Isn't Australia currently in their summer and they're getting cases though?

Do you use it for washing dishes?

I now keep washcloth and small towel by toilet so I can reserve TP for when really needed, and I'm sure I don't need to get graphic.

Bread flour low, no whole wheat flour at all, although I'm still reasonably stocked on all purpose (you know I would have every possible type of flour). Can't help wondering if the folks who cleared out all the flour from stores really bake their own bread or are thinking of some coming apocalypse where no bread available?

Trump warned governors need to be "nice" to him if they want emergency assistance.

Can some one do some fact checking on this... My dad tells me KEX was saying that during this covid outbreak not a single country has exceeded their normal death rate, and that 88% of the deaths being listed as “from the corona virus”, COVID-19 was just a contributing factor, but not the actual cause of death?

If that's true, I wonder if it's similar to how you don't necessarily die from AIDS, but you die because your immune system is weaker.

I wonder what the death rate is for the same # of people catching the "normal" flu.
