OT Coronavirus: America in chaos, News and Updates. One million Americans dead and counting

the first set of numbers is from data compiles by the WHO.

the 2nd set of numbers is from a 'private' organization. Their self-description is:

"Worldometer is run by an international team of developers, researchers, and volunteers with the goal of making world statistics available in a thought-provoking and time relevant format to a wide audience around the world. It is published by a small and independent digital media company based in the United States. We have no political, governmental, or corporate affiliation."

I don't have any decent gauge to judge which source is more reliable. Looking at the WHO data for individual nations it looks like they are a few days behind in updating their numbers

a 1200 death discrepancy is huge though and I don't know what the explanation is. Maybe it's nothing more than the clocks each organization uses to set the 24 hour period are different and WHO got some Friday numbers added to the Saturday numbers. In any event, the website you cited has always had much lower death numbers on weekends, then a big uptick on Mondays.

Well, he did say 220k deaths, so he’s wrong too!

he's said 2.2M deaths

he's said 0 deaths

he's said 60,000 deaths

he's said 240,000 deaths

he's said 100,000 deaths

he's said 65,000 deaths

he's said this will all be over by April

the fool can't keep his mouth shut, but I guess that allows his supporters to say: "see, trump predicted this" If the next time the Blazer play, I predict Dame will score between 0 and 174 points, I'm going to be right

She Predicted the Coronavirus. What Does She Foresee Next?

Laurie Garrett, the prophet of this pandemic, expects years of death and “collective rage.”

this is a pretty revealing excerpt from that article:

And she’s shocked that America isn’t in a position to lead the global response to this crisis, in part because science and scientists have been so degraded under Trump.

Referring to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta and its analogues abroad, she told me: “I’ve heard from every C.D.C. in the world — the European C.D.C., the African C.D.C., China C.D.C. — and they say, ‘Normally our first call is to Atlanta, but we ain’t hearing back.’ There’s nothing going on down there. They’ve gutted that place. They’ve gagged that place. I can’t get calls returned anymore. Nobody down there is feeling like it’s safe to talk. Have you even seen anything important and vital coming out of the C.D.C.?

also:

The problem, Garrett added, is bigger than Trump and older than his presidency. America has never been sufficiently invested in public health. The riches and renown go mostly to physicians who find new and better ways to treat heart disease, cancer and the like. The big political conversation is about individuals’ access to health care.

But what about the work to keep our air and water safe for everyone, to design policies and systems for quickly detecting outbreaks, containing them and protecting entire populations? Where are the rewards for the architects of that?

Garrett recounted her time at Harvard. “The medical school is all marble, with these grand columns,” she said. “The school of public health is this funky building, the ugliest possible architecture, with the ceilings falling in.”

“That’s America?” I asked.

“That’s America,” she said.

Actually no. During the presser, he said 2.2 without mitigation, 100-240k with mitigation. That was also based on the IHME model. So yes, he was wrong for believing that shitty model.

We are almost to 70,000 Over 100k is very likely. Just admit he tried to downplay the virus and failed to react in a timely manner

oh c'mon man....there hasn't been just 1 presser. There's been dozens of them and trump has jumped on every death number base from 0 to 2.2 million, depending on where he's trying tp position himself. That's what happens when a buffoon is given the biggest microphone on earth and he talks for hours and hours and hours....trump with an ad-lib is like a baby with a bazooka

Yep, every adjustment has been based on that shitty IHME model.

here’s a Vox, not friendly to trump, article regarding this faulty model and how the White House Pandemic Team relied on it.

Our old friend Rasheed Wallace joined a group of hip hop artists in making a video 20 Seconds, public health message to hip hop beat. It's aimed at teaching young people, especially Black youth, on preventive measures. Don't have a handy link, saw it on AM Joy. Good on you, Sheed.

Oregon Update:
Check out the sections on Demographics and additional data.

Oregon Health Authority | COVID-19 Updates

Still 6 of 108 deaths are people under 60 and 0 under 40.
Most are elderly with underlying conditions and a good percentage from senior nursing homes. And even with increased testing of late the positive rate in Oregon has remained under 5%.
Hospital capacity is good and C19 activity in emergency departments remains very low as compared to other emergency room visits.

We are ready for phase 2, but that's just my opinion.

YES, it is official. Our neighborhood Starbucks is re-opening tomorrow for the first time since March 15th I believe. Only to go orders, but STILL. Some normalcy in my life.
Theres usually 4 starbucks between my house and work. Only one even has their drive thru opened (and now Im leaving for work earlier because I have to sit in line!). I actually went to dutch brothers a couple times...

actually grinding some beans and making coffee at home is the normalcy....Starbucks is just an autograph for a cup of coffee...now will you drive there or walk? That's the test!
