So when you said, "So much for this administration allowing the governors to make their own call," you weren't suggesting that the court decision indicated that he had diverted from that directive, but simply opining that that directive is ineffective?

OK--I guess that makes sense. At first I wasn't understanding the connection between the headline quoted and Trump. Thank you for the clarification.

anytime you need more help, just let me know. :bgrin:

Coronavirus is FIVE TIMES deadlier than the seasonal flu, report finds, as researchers say comparing the two diseases is 'apples-to-oranges'
  • Researchers compared coronavirus deaths aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship to deaths from the seasonal flu
  • The death rate on the ship was 0.5% compared to the 0.1% for influenza, making coronavirus five times deadlier
  • A comparison was also made during peak weeks of the outbreak in April compared to peak weeks of the influenza season from 2013-20
  • About 20 times as many people died during a peak week of COVID-19 as did during a peak week of the flu
  • Officials such as Trump have compared the two diseases but the team says this is 'apples-to-oranges'
The novel coronavirus is about five times deadlier for adults than the seasonal flu, a new study suggests.

As of early May, about 65,000 Americans had died from COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus, which is about as many people who die from influenza every year in the US.

However, researchers say the two viruses are not comparable because one is more contagious than the other and the way that deaths are reported is different.

By using data from the Diamond Princess cruise ship outbreak, for which complete data is available, they determined the fatality rate was 0.5 percent - a five-fold increase from flu death rates.

Although officials may say that SARS-CoV-2 is "just another flu," this is not true,' the team, from Harvard University and Emory University, wrote.

sorry sly but that appears to be fake news

the new narrative, the data is wrong and needs to be revised to better reflect the president's agenda.

So now, Trump knows more about infectious disease epidemiology than the PhD epidemiology experts we rely on. I didn't realize that his educational resume needs to include both a PhD in microbiology specializing in infectious diseases as well as PhD in epidemiology. This guy is the greatest genius of the last 100 years and maybe forever. People talk about how brilliant he is. I'd have to include the word stable when describing his genius. He's probably the most stable genius of all time. Why don't they just give all seven of the Nobel prizes to him every year?

That's kind of a specific sample size.

I wouldn't surprise me one bit if Trump and his team was trying to lower death and case counts. He knows that he needs to open this economy to have a chance in this next election. Trump is a compulsive lier and a hypocrite.

He has the best gut feelings and is known to have a big gut.

Kidney injury seen in more than a third of hospitalized COVID-19 patients: U.S. study

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Over a third of patients treated for COVID-19 in a large New York medical system developed acute kidney injury, and nearly 15% required dialysis, U.S. researchers reported on Thursday.

The study was conducted by a team at Northwell Health, the largest health provider in New York state.

“We found in the first 5,449 patients admitted, 36.6% developed acute kidney injury,” said study co-author Dr. Kenar Jhaveri, associated chief of nephrology at Hofstra/Northwell in Great Neck, New York, whose findings were published in the journal Kidney International.

Acute kidney injury occurs when the kidneys fail and become unable to filter out waste.

Of those patients with kidney failure, 14.3% required dialysis, Jhaveri said in a phone interview.

The study is the largest to date to look at kidney injury in COVID-19 patients. It may be helpful, Jhaveri said, as other hospitals face new waves of patients with the disease caused by the novel coronavirus that has infected more than 4.3 million people and killed over 295,000 globally.

Several groups have noted increased rates of kidney failure among patients with COVID-19. Jhaveri and colleagues set out to quantify it by combing through medical records of 5,449 COVID-19 patients hospitalized between March 1 and April 5.

They found that kidney failure occurred early on, with 37.3% of patients arriving at the hospital with failing kidneys, or developing the condition within the first 24 hours of being admitted.

In many cases, the kidney failure occurred around the time severely ill patients needed to be placed on a ventilator, Jhaveri said.

Among the more than 1,000 patients who needed to be placed on a ventilator, about 90% developed acute kidney failure. That compared with 21.7% of the 925 patients who developed the condition but did not need mechanical breathing assistance.

POTENTIAL COVID-19 CURE

A California company has identified an antibody that they have tested to be 100% effective in binding to the virus that causes covid-19 and preventing it from replicating. They plan to develop a cocktail of 3 antibodies that will be available by the end of the year given completion of testing and FDA approval and, they claim, will be more effective than a vaccine in preventing and treating covid-19:

Trump just said there are so many tests and testers available they're bored waiting for people to show up.
