Beavis and Butthead would be better candidates than trump/ pence. So would Spongebob and Patrick

I would vote for a Beavis/Butthead vs. Spongebob/Patrick ticket over a Trump/Pence vs. Biden/ ? ticket... any day of the week!

This is the kind of dumb we have to deal with in this country. @TorturedBlazerFan, maybe this is why we're an outlier!

Students in Alabama Threw COVID Parties to See Who Would Get Infected First, Say Officials

(TUSCALOOSA, Ala.) — Several college students in an Alabama city organized “COVID-19” parties as a contest to see who would get the virus first, officials said.

Tuscaloosa City Councilor Sonya McKinstry said students hosted the parties to intentionally infect each other with the new coronavirus, news outlets reported.

McKinstry said party organizers purposely invited guests who tested positive for COVID-19. She said the students put money in a pot and whoever got COVID first would get the cash.

“It makes no sense,” McKinstry said. “They’re intentionally doing it.”

Tuscaloosa Fire Chief Randy Smith confirmed the incidents to the City Council on Tuesday.

The department thought the parties were rumors, but Smith said after some research, officials discovered the parties were real.

“Not only do the doctors’ offices confirm it but the state confirmed they also had the same information,” Smith said.

Smith did not say whether actions would be taken against the students. He also did not say which schools the students attend.

Tuscaloosa is home to The University of Alabama and several other colleges.

Tuscaloosa City Council members unanimously approved a mask requirement during a meeting Tuesday.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and those with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness and even be fatal.

According to donnie dolittle, the cupboard was bare and was left with no pandemic guidelines. But then we have this article.

exerpt from the article

As a senior policy adviser to an Obama administration Cabinet member, I attended part of the Jan. 13, 2017, transition exercise in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building — which included a session focused on preparing the incoming Trump administration for how to respond as a government (rather than as a re-election campaign) to a pandemic. The meeting included at least 30 members of the incoming Cabinet and staff, alongside their Obama administration counterparts.

I can assure you there are idiots all over the world. The problem is that our so called leadership glamorizes being idiots...

There are idiots all over the world, but not only do we have leaders who glamorize it, we've taken as a national identity that one's right to be stupid should never be abridged. That's why this nation is the only one (as far as I know) to have resisted seat belt laws.

That's why I believe we're an outlier. Not because we have incorrect numbers (or any more incorrect than other nations') but because our national identity revolves around not only being an individual, but that being an individual means resisting even common sense safety.

Exxxxxactly. Well said.

Wear a mask. Don’t be dumb. This is what I said the other day and it was a controversy in here.

According to some on here, because if your views, you are a pariah.

...stand your ground and don't let the bastids win.

Are the nation’s hospitals overwhelmed yet? Asking for a friend...

Yes, Houston is over capacity and growing. Arizona and Florida aren't far behind.

and more cases are happening at a record rate and in some areas more than what happened in the initial run. Quit listening to trump's it will just go away mantra and follow the guidelines by wearing your mask and social distancing.

Can't believe you actually drug this up again.

Take your head out of the sand and wake up and smell the coffee....and judging from your recent comments, if you have any friends, they likely have covid19.

Check back in a couple of weeks and pose your question again. Not only is our POTUS in denial, but evidently many of our citizens are too.

Is the warm weather kicking Covids ass yet? Asking for a friend

The thing about the "warm weather" myth, is that if it were true we would not have had this recent surge in new cases to begin with...it's been warm for quite awhile now.

And the hardest hit areas are along the southern border where it is much warmer than most places.

I think Kate Brown is waiting to see the reports of Oregonians on Fourth of July. If people are getting together, not social distancing and not wearing masks, she will close everything down Sunday. If people can manage to behave properly maybe we stay where we are at

If people don't follow the rules now what makes you think that they will do it later?

some are

and there are several things at work here to. To start with, the average time for test results to be returned to the patient and counted officially is 6-9 days. So the numbers you're seeing daily run about a week behind the infection rate. The incubation period is anywhere from 2-14 days. Hospitalizations tend to occur 7-20 days after symptoms first present

in other words, what we are seeing right now in terms of illness, hospitalizations, and deaths, represents where the pandemic's infection rate was 3-4 weeks ago. That's back in the 2nd week of June when we were seeing 20,000-21,000 confirmed cases a day. That's around 140,000-150,000 confirmed cases a week.

yesterday, there were over 50,000 confirmed cases. In the week that includes yesterday, there were 280,000 confirmed cases which doubles the count from the 2nd week in June. At the rate of yesterday, there would be 350,000 confirmed cases in the next week. But at the rate of increase we're seeing right now, it's entirely possible we'll see 400,000 confirmed cases in the next week which almost triples the number of the 2nd week in June

look at this:

if you use that bottom line (the days since 100 cases) then project up on the vertical lines from 91 thru 105 and that's what was going on that is creating current hospitalization numbers. If you want to know what will be going on 2-3 weeks from now, then use the vertical line from 119 and wherever that curve goes from here

***************************************

we were fucking stupid in this country. We re-opened too suddenly, too broadly, and too fast. Compare the US to Europe:

upload_2020-7-2_22-12-16.png

looks a little different doesn't it. But then in Europe, they don't consider wearing masks to be a sign of weakness or a leftist plot to impose socialism and confiscate guns. Mask use there in several countries is above 80%. It's not a political issue. Morons made it one here

in summary, don't count hospitals clear of crisis until 2-3 weeks after we see the curve falling again. I'm thinking that's weeks away and we'll be seeing all kinds of closures again. Even the right-wing Texas governor gets it as he just mandated mask use

I think my gym is as safe as Safeway.
Appoint only, mask, equipment spaced very good. They limit works outs to 1 hour then a crew spends 1/2 hours disinfecting.
Todays observation, becasue the equipment is space all younger people didn't wear mask , while working out, as its part of the policy. I asked today if the new law that mask must be worn inside period.
Was told if they receive a report that someone tested positive everyone will be notified.
Was told they have not received orders from company or State but I bet they dom soon. I'm actually impressed with the how they are abiding by the phase one rules.
They also have a senior hour from 2-3pm that doesn't require an appt.
Overall when I go it's about 1/4 of the people that are usually there as its governed.
taking temperatures is very good practice for this business....I'd require it

Why the next few days could decide the fate of the coronavirus crisis in the US: Startling data shows deaths are RISING again - as spike in cases and hospitalisations show worsening outbreak may not be down just to more testing
  • Cases have started surging again in the US and yesterday hit a one-day record of more than 52,000
  • Hospitalisations are also rising, with around 35,000 currently sick up from a low of 27,000 in mid-June
  • It takes two to four weeks for a fatal Covid-19 patient to die, on average, meaning deaths could spike soon
