Looks like Don played 18 today. Anyone know how he did?
Yeah, he got his usual hole in one. That means free drinks in the clubhouse or should I say free diet Pepsis. How else do you think he keeps his boyish figure? A diet Pepsi cancels out a Big Mac.

(CNN)Georgia's largest school district has confirmed that around 260 employees have either tested positive for Covid-19 or have been exposed.

The Gwinnett County School District (GCPS) employees won't be returning to school just yet as districts across the country continue to adjust their back-to-school plans to prevent the spread of the virus.
The situation in Gwinnett is fluid, GCPS spokeswoman Sloan Roach told CNN in an email Sunday evening.
"As of last Thursday, we had approximately 260 employees who had been excluded from work due to a positive case or contact with a case," Roach said. "This number is fluid as we continue to have new reports and others who are returning to work," she added.

Face masks that support a good cause
Face masks have become our new normal, and with these masks, you can make sure you're doing even more good than usual.
The district -- which is in the metro Atlanta area and is the largest in the school system in the state -- is set to reopen with online learning on August 12.
Despite the high case count and the confirmed community spread, some parents held a protest last week demanding that children be allowed to return to in-person learning.

I haven't seen it here, but son in law Kushner had his own Corona virus task force, made up of his buddies, all as qualified as he. I guess Middle East peace, updating computer security, reforming Veterans Administration was not enough to keep him busy. They actually developed a testing plan but scrapped it because the outbreak at first hit high population centers (typical for epidemics), which tend to vote Democratic. So they figured it was best to do nothing, let pandemic rage in Democratic controlled cities/states and use that as election issue, Democrats are incapable of controlling outbreak. Anyone with public health knowledge could have told them that in a mobile society microbes spread, but they have the second best brains..... second only to the very best brain himself.

In case you were planning on camping this summer, think twice, stay safe.

Seems weird, doesn't it? Being outdoors and mostly wearing masks seems to be the key. This is from healthline.com:

The biggest factor is the protests were outdoors.

There’s also the fact that people were largely moving and exposed to the sun and wind.

“In general, being outdoors does help, due to fresh circulation of air and the antiviral effects of the UV in sunlight, as well as the virus’s fragile nature with desiccation,” Rohde said. “This doesn’t mean the virus can’t be transmitted outdoors, but it’s certainly better than being in enclosed, indoor spaces with lots of people and low air turnover.”

But there are nuances as to why these protests might have been safe while attending an outdoor event like, say, a baseball game or concert might not be.

Memorial Day crowds at some beaches and parks sparked criticism — and led to cities such as Los Angeles and Miami closing beaches for the Fourth of July weekend.

But it’s not necessarily being at the beach with other people that is the problem, Shaman said.

It’s the facilities and interactions that are part of many people’s trips to the beach.

“Going back to beaches and Memorial Day, my opinion is people out at the beach is not a big deal,” he said. “But ice cream shops, walking on a boardwalk without masks, going into the restaurants [becomes a problem]. So, in other words, it’s really the indoor dynamic that is problematic.”

He called out bars especially, where it’s usually necessary to be in close proximity to others and to shout — and spread droplets — over music and chatter.

The same would apply to a ball game or concert. Even though you’d be mostly outside, you’d be sharing bathrooms, shops, and walkways with others.

And even when outside, you’d be mostly stationary and in a stadium that’s blocking much of the wind and sun, Shaman said — conditions that weren’t a part of the protests."

Hilarious. I wonder which part of camping is spreading the disease worse than mass gatherings? Must be the s’mores.

depends on where you camp, how you camp, and what facilities you use when you do

if you go to a crowded campground with tightly packed spaces go to heavily used restrooms, of course that's a higher risk of infection. It's harder to wash your hands often and thoroughly when you're camping, especially if you're tent camping

but if you go to a dispersed BLM or Forest Service campground that is uncrowded and lightly used....and there are a lot of those especially on the eastern side of the state, you probably don't have much more exposure than staying at home

my wife and I have already camped twice this summer in Eastern Oregon, once in a Forest Service campground and once in a BLM campground. The 1st and last nights were also in a BLM campground. We have a small 5th wheel so we don't have to use the vault toilets. About half the time over 16 nights, we were either the only people in the campground or were sharing it with one other camp a couple hundred feet away

we'll be doing a 3rd camp toward the end of August for 10 days

by the way, knock on wood, but so far this has been a real mild fire season. That could change of course with one thunderstorm, but so far, it's been good. I'd hate to think of the risk to large firefighting crews if we get a bad fire. The thought of Covid attacking the smoke-compromised lungs of firefighters is pretty scary

this is a long article on the pandemic and how it brought America to it's knees, but an excellent one by a very good science writer. Well worth the time IMO:

interesting that yet another data analysis has concluded that all those protests haven't really been primary in the Covid surge. I'm sure there has been some infections, and certainly you can question the wisdom of the protests in terms of the virus. But it's been many other stupid behaviors and decisions that are to blame

They are totally inept. So inept that they bought Millions of test kits from the middle East and they don't work. Ha ha ha ha, the idiots paid for Millions of test kits none of which work.

I think at one of those crowded campgrounds you could probably catch more than ‘rona. I stay away from those things, it’s more of a chore than it is a vacation. We camped at Yellowstone once and, as beautiful as the scenery is, it was sort of a nightmare. Basically like sleeping in your driveway with all your neighbors running generators. Not my idea of camping. I’m lucky enough to be surrounded by national forests where primitive campsites are abundant, and free. It really makes easy to go camp and enjoy nature without having to plan a big trip or spend much money.

yeah..that's right

fortunately I've seen places like Yellowstone and Zion and Yosemite and the Grand Canyon. They are spectacular for sure, but they are too much like Disneyland. Elbow to elbow and lines everywhere and generally, people suck

we much rather go to places that don't have much use. They might not be as spectacular as those national parks but they are beautiful in their own right. And it's much easier to appreciate the beauty when you aren't tripping over people. Of course, you might occasionally step in some cow shit, but there is danger everywhere (and forget about shark week....mosquito week is more bloody).

Even many places in central Oregon, especially around Bend are too crowded in my view. But if you go just a little bit further, and are willing to use gravel roads a lot, camping is seclusion. We camp almost exclusively in the eastern half of the state plus some treks into northern Nevada and western Idaho

watch out for ticks though

Yeah, don't worry. They've scheduled a protest for later so that should cancel any COVID exposure out, right? [/Georgia Logic]

Georgia has a strong history of segregation, I'm sure they'll just have a school for the infected and a school for the non-infected.

Add America is number one country in the world with people infected with Coronavirus
