In another dispiriting setback for the nation’s efforts to stamp out the coronavirus, scientists who studied a big COVID-19 outbreak in Massachusetts concluded that vaccinated people who got so-called breakthrough infections carried about the same amount of the coronavirus as those who did not get the shots.

Health officials on Friday released details of that research, which was key in this week’s decision by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to recommend that vaccinated people return to wearing masks indoors in parts of the U.S. where the delta variant is fueling infection surges. The authors said the findings suggest that the CDC’s mask guidance should be expanded to include the entire country, even outside of hot spots.

The findings have the potential to upend past thinking about how the disease is spread. Previously, vaccinated people who got infected were thought to have low levels of virus and to be unlikely to pass it to others. But the new data shows that is not the case with the delta variant.

The outbreak in Provincetown — a seaside tourist spot on Cape Cod in the county with Massachusetts’ highest vaccination rate — has so far included more than 900 cases. About three-quarters of them were people who were fully vaccinated.

Do you know how many vaccinated who got ill with Covid-19 and died in Massachusetts? Big fat zero. All the deaths, everyone of them, came from the unvaccinated.

Indian 'Delta' variant causes 84% increase in COVID-19 cases in children as hospitals in Texas, Florida and Missouri warn they are at 'breaking point' as the US sees 100,000 daily cases and nearly 500 deaths over a seven-day average
  • The US is now averaging 100,000 new infections a day - up from about 11,000 cases a day in late June
  • The 7-day average for daily new deaths almost doubled in the past two weeks from 270 to 500 a day Friday
  • The surge in cases is overwhelming hospitals in hotspot states with Missouri officials stationing 30 ambulances and 60 medical staff to transport COVID-19 patients to other regions as hospitals are too full
  • Florida hospitals are suspending elective surgeries and putting beds in conference rooms, an auditorium and a cafeteria to try to make space
  • One ER in hard-hit Texas revealed it is at almost five times its hospital bed capacity with 90 patients in its 20-bed ER and 50 patients on standby
  • The spread of the Delta variant is impacting children too with almost 72,000 children testing positive in the week ending July 29 - up 84% in a week

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is out with new COVID-19 health guidance for schools that's giving some medical experts cause for concern.

The new guidelines state that schools don't have to inform parents of positive cases; schools do not have to contact trace; and parents can choose to send a student to school if he or she has been in close contact with a positive case, among other updates

There is a lot of reason to worry with this. This is pretty much the exact scenario that got us all sick here. My nephew was in a summer school and they didn't tell parents that 2 teachers were covid positive. Without the knowledge, I still stayed up at my sister's house on work days, and still came home for the weekend and gave it to my girlfriend. I wore masks at gas stations and such when in transit, but who knows if I spread it along the route.

Yeah, it is terribly irresponsible.

Dick Farrell, Trumpist right wing shock jock and Newsmax contributor, called vaccines poison, said he did not need and would not get Covid vaccine and called people who were vaccinated sheep. He called Dr. Fauci a power tripping lying freak. He died of Covid Friday.

In Britain, Leslie Lawrenson, an antivax spokesman said vaccine was more dangerous than Covid. When he first tested positive he said he was glad because he could prove Covid was no big deal. He died nine days later.

I have an opinion that someone should murder Trump but I don't go around bragging about it.
Dead people spread less virus than living. So the vaccine is only prolonging the spread of covid. If everyone were dead there would be no more covid to worry about.

With humans gone us dogs can finally rise to power!

I'll have my brains ta'en out, and buttered, and give them to a dog for a new year's gift.

The Merry Wives of Windsor

Been waiting a long time for a suitable occasion for that quote.

Excellent! That was just wonderful!

But this one thread is IN the OT section.

It brings to mind that famous religious philosophical question: Can god create a thread so large that not even the forum it's in can contain it?

God damnit... Sorry man.
He's a healthy little dude. And so far his symptoms are pretty light. I feel pretty good about it, all things considered. I think my girlfriend has had it the worst so far. I'm just tired and have a headache. Pretty much the extent of what I'm feeling. I'm keeping my nephew in my thoughts though.
