Could Luo Deng be a short term fix?

Last year I would've said yes, but I like Turner more this year. Deng seems perpetually injured, too.
and he is not aging well at all and he's got two yrs left after this - he's one of the worst/hardest movable contracts in the NBA IMO

I'd do this:

Maybe.

I was never been on the Deng bandwagon in the past when we used to have a thread about him every year, because I always felt what we had was just as good. (i.e Batum) But right now I have very little confidence in our small forwards. And after watching him last year I was surprised at how well he was still playing. The guy, was a 2 time all star and all NBA defensive team player. Is he now? Of course not, but I still would take him with his experience and defensive IQ over Harkless and Leonard.

Unless we can trade for a better option. Can we? I see Deng as a stop gap for 2 years while we draft a SF and groom him. It's not like I am suggesting we give up future talent for him. What do we lose? (Unless he gets hurt and then we are fucked) We just need about 24 minutes a game from him.

I think some of you think because he isn't' playing..... that he can't still play as well as he did. I admit injuries are a concern with older players so I am not completely sold on it either. But skill wise.....I would make it happen.
Deng is done. There's nothing there that changes this team's fortunes in the short-term and especially not in the long-term, and definitely not at his salary.

All things being equal, this is trading nothing much for nothing much. I've gotta believe there's a better trade to be made if I'm Neil Olshey.

I'm not feeling this one. Save the trade chips for something worthwhile.

OK fair enough. You are all probably right....we can do better.

However I doubt very much that some of you watched Laker games last January and February on NBA league pass...which was the last time he played. So I think most of you are guessing on whether he is done or not.
I did because it is on the local cable station and I can watch multiple games at once. But did you guys really seek out that shtty team last year and watch them?

18mil is something that I dont really want for vet. Yet, I still think we need some vets. Is Matt Barnes free?

Of course that is not going to happen. Vets who get bought out always seem to chase the ring. So the usual suspects will get first crack.
Then the impact he will potentially bring < impact on our salary cap

Luol Deng and Julius Randle are WABC'S??

Maybe I don't understand what WABC means.
I think the comment was in response to the notion of getting a pick along with Deng, suggesting that the pick would just be wasted on another WABC.

I'd rather just start Vonleh at the 4 and move Aminu to the starting 3 than take on a broken down Luol Deng and his ridiculous contract. At this point, what would Deng give us that Aminu can't?

It's hard to imagine that Timofey Mozgov at $64 million over 4 years was not the worst contract the Lakers handed out during the summer of 2016, but it wasn't. At least they were able to find someone willing to take Mozgov off their hands.

They got rid of him because they offered Russell, a number two pick from two years ago who also had two good years. If they offered Ingram and Deng for Harkless and a late first, I am taking that too.

Amazingly they also got Kuzma from that deal but that was a freak coincidence.

I was thinking that Deng and Noah would start and Aminu would come off the bench for either depending on the matchups. But I agree with you that there is not much difference between he and Aminu. Whose contracts we were getting rid of was also a factor. I think a another vet presence on this team would only be a plus.

In the end, I concede we can do better.

Good points. They had to "pay" someone to take Mozgov off their hands. They will have to pay someone to take Deng, as well. The problem is, do they have anything else left they would be willing to give away in order to dump Deng? I'm guessing not enough to get it done.

In the end, waiving Deng and using the stretch provision may be their best option (they should have done tat before the season started). Although they can afford him right now, due to having so many young players on cheap contracts, his salary may become a roadblock to signing multiple big name free agents next summer.

I think Julius Randle has some value around the league. That should be enough especially if the Lakers have to take back some unwanted contracts....which I assume they will have to.

I did not ;)

If they include ingram, absolutely. If not... no. 3 way with the Knicks , sending harkless there?

If we could just sign Deng, post-waiving (eating contract by Lakers), I'd agree to sign him for league minimum.

Otherwise, I would not give up assets (even Meyers Leonard) to help the Lakers create salary cap space for next summer. Just not into helping them!!!
