Could the Timbers army influence the 314 boys?

Not in the sense that they sing constantly during the game, but it'd be nice if there was more crowd chanting/cheering songs (so to speak).

I think it COULD, but some of the reason why it works at soccer/football games is there is a lot of lag time in the game. There's stretches of play where you can not really pay too much attention to the game.

I think the chanting is a cultural thing. They do it all the time in Euro Basketball. The Army and American fans grew up watching the Euro soccer fans chant and thus they do.

Soccer is an entirely different world. I don't think there could be much carry over from soccer to basketball.

A) The rich fuddie duddies in the lower bowl would never do it.

B) I feel like the real fans in the upper bowl are too far away from the action for the singing to be effective.

I think you are wrong by a long shot. First off, its an indoor arena with the acoustic cloud that bounces noise back to the court. The Timbers Army section is beind the north goal and only consists of 3-6k (I can't remember the actual number right now). The TA do their thing in an outdoor stadium and still make quite an impact. I think the upper bowl could be just as, if not louder. Not to say that its something I would want to see happen at blazer games, but it sure would set us apart in the league. Would be pretty intense to have loud crowd noise the entire game. Imagine it during say timeouts in the 1st quarter.



Btw, I am not rich and I have season tix in the lower bowl. There are plenty of loud and rowdy fans down there. Don't hate/judge.

That may or may not be true in the US, but it's nothing intrinsic to basketball:

Even if you got only the people in the cheap seats (or a portion of the cheap seats) going, you'd still be able to be heard all over the place because of the acoustics. It would be a pretty unique experience in the NBA and would make for a potentially huge home court advantage for the Blazers. You'd just have to get enough people on board initially (several hundred maybe?) to get it started.

Agree with your first statement, but would rather have music over nothing. I also have seats in the lower and upper bowl and would not be too fuddy duddy to cheer TA style at games.

The Blazers tried to designate a section of superfans when PA got the Rose Garden back. I think it was just a ploy to sell the yellow seats behind the basket and it did not work well. When we got the #1 pick in the lottery, the need for a gimmick to sell seats vanished.

I would love to see the same energy at Blazer games as I do at Timber games. Alot of Blazer fans, me included, had never been exposed to the TA atmosphere. There will be carryover regardless if anything is done to coordinate fans. Would love for eventually there to be a general admission section where standing is expected and cheering is not optional.
