Why would atlanta trade a star player for cap space and garbage,
but....
Here is what i woud do: Trade KVH, Swift the stiff, Haskell, Agar, #1 pick for Marcus, and 500K for buyout of kvh, for
Nocioni and Hinrich.
Then we would have one of the best benches in the league.
Solve the 3 pt guard option, and extra shooting guard, and have great defense with Nicioni playing etiher the 3 or 4.

they are both tradeable assets. Plus other players on this team can be traded in a few years. They both have declining salaries. I don't think so. I think someone said Kirk is only owed like 10 million on the rest of his contract.
besides forget the Lebron pipedream too....

Well Atlanta has a glut at the wing/forward positions. What they really need is a true PG to setup the offense and get their playmakers the ball in the right spots. Hinrich for Smith might be a rip off in terms of pure talent/potential but when you factor in contract demands, chemistry (with the coach only), and roster balance it evens out and might even tip in ATL's favor.

Hinrich's contract is terrible. He is more than likely not a tradeable asset and he limits our flexibility to do anything in free agency... it's not just about Lebron. You would have to move him next summer and get a one year expiring in order to do anything in the summer of 2010.

Because they don't want to pay him what he wants. If they don't want to pay Josh Smith why would they want to pay a lesser player.
Look at the Pau Gasol trade. What did Memphis get back? Cap room in the form of Kwame's albatross contract that just expired, a young talented player in Javaris Crittenton and draft picks. Why did they trade Gasol? Because they had ownership issues and needed to clear cap room.
Look at Atlanta, they have an ownership group that can never agree as a group to dole out large amounts of money on a specific player. They have a special talent in Josh Smith but if they aren't willing to pay him he will either take the QO and become an unrestricted free agent next year or they will attempt to do a sign and trade this summer to get value back. There have already been numerous reports that they are exploring and considering sign and trade possibilities, but if they trade him it will be for players with potential, cap room and draft picks. Why else would they trade him? Theyre not going to want to pay another guy the money Smith wants or else they would just come to terms with him and pay him themselves and this wouldnt even be up for discussion.
Do you think the Pau Gasol trade was something that made Memphis fans happy? No, of course it didnt, and of course they lost out from a talent perspective. Sean Williams and/or Josh Boone are the equivalent of Crittenton in the Gasol trade (in my opinion, Sean has more potential than Javaris), and the expiring contract of Swift and whoever else would be included are the Kwame Brown of this type of deal combined with a number of draft picks.

Exactly, I dont like that deal at all. Leaves us right where we were before we began this rebuilding faze. A team stuck in mediocrity with no cap space to improve itself..
