I think Nate and other forget how young GO is. Of course he wants to go home. He's probably home sick big time. I don't blame him for that. I understand Nate wanting him to stay too. He needs a lot of work to be where we want him to be next year. Nate will just have to make sure he has everything he needs at home on his schedule to improve.

Not the best shot but he definitely fills out that shirt, and it aint muscle.

I don't agree. He doesn't look fat at all in that video. Clearly bigger than at Ohio State, but there's nothing in that video that suggests it was fat rather than muscle. When he extends to snatch the ball out of the air and dunk it (around 1:25), you can see the form of his body through his shirt and it's lean, not paunchy.

I think it matters little where Greg spends his summer. What matters is the results.

If he stops rimchecking himself on dunks I'll be happy with his summer regardless of where he spends it.

I am sorry but he wasn't fat. I think this is Kevin Duckworth syndrome all over again, except this time, it isn't Kevin Duckworth, who was overweight a lot of his career. It's not even close.

He looks lean and muscular under that baggy shirt to me; but I don't have x-ray vision so there's not much to conclude.

Well we agree to disagree then. He's obviously muscular but he also packed on a lot of fat. Really not disputable imo. If he didn't pack on fat you'd be able to see his cheek bones much more clearly, like before his surgery.

Btw, it's damn near impossible to pack on 30-40 LBs of muscle in less than a year, especially when you consider how limited Oden was in his rehab. It's just not possible.

Possible to pack on 30-40 LBs, but not 30-40 LBs of pure muscle.

He's 7 motherfucking feet tall. 30-40lbs of muscle on a 7 footer is like 10-20 for a 6 footer. Was it ALL pure muscle? maybe not, but I doubt his bodyfat was over 10%. Look, I'm 5'10" and I gained 40 lbs of pure muscle (and some fat) in one year without PEDs. Of course, I was an underfed 162lbs that was running 30+ miles a week. I started eating again and lifting and went right back up to 210, then I got hit by a motherfucking crown vic at 40mph, so now I am 260 and working my way back to 200-210lbs.

Anyhow, I know a little bit about packing on muscle. If I can do it at 5'10", Greg sure can at 7 ft.

I'm sure you were doing squats and power cleans though, or just any big lift involving your legs. Oden obviously couldn't do those. It was all upper body work, and if he put on 30-40 LBs of pure muscle in just his upper body in less than a year, then....., I can't even fathom that. That would be just amazing.

Well how much do you think he had to put on for Nate to worry it was to much? 10-20? No, more like 30-40. Just makes sense.

Where is that guy? Pictures speak volumes. That guy looks so confident.

I'm glad GO is going back to Ohio. He needs to clear his head, have some fun, and chill out. If he heads back here mid-August in a better frame of mind, nobody will have any complaints.

I think Nate is already complaining . . . in a politically correct and classy way, of course.

How much muscle you can gain depends on how far you are from your peak.

Christian Bale, played an anorexic insomniac in "The Machinist" and got down to like 100 pounds, then he slapped on 120 pounds of muscle to play Batman.

But the average Joe, who works out regularly, has probably already hit a sort of peak and couldn't put on that kind of muscle weight.

Anyway, I really hope Oden makes vast improvements next season. I'd prefer him to stay in Portland and practice with our coaches, but I think he should take a two month break. He just needs to get his ass back here by July.

Remember also that Greg was 19 when drafted. A lot of young men are still physically developing - they have reached full height but not yet filled out.

I also agree he needs a bit of time off. He's clearly put way too much pressure on himself. Basketball needs to become fun again for Greg.

Good points. I don't know why I had completely blown off him actually growing up. Perhaps that's because I've always consider him over 40.

Also, more than anything, I think he could use some time away from this fishbowl.
