Nate took 3rd. Good for him. Somebody posted last week that he wouldn't even get a vote. Wrong.

Coach, Team 1st 2nd 3rd Pts
Scott Brooks, Oklahoma City 71 39 8 480
Scott Skiles, Milwaukee 26 54 21 313
Nate McMillan, Portland 9 9 35 107
Jerry Sloan, Utah 10 9 21 98
Alvin Gentry, Phoenix 4 5 11 46

HAHA! Our coach is better than yours Phoenix!

*prepares for :shitstorm: *

I'm a bit shocked that Larry Brown wasn't higher on that list. I'd have him above Gentry, at the very least.

I thought Brown should be higher as well. Then again, I thought Skiles should have won it over Brooks.

Well it does save us from that awkward headline of

"Blazers fire reigning Coach of the Year."

Ehh.

Not a great choice.

Yes, he got Durant to play defense and helped turn him into the next offensive SuperStar.

But...... Durant deserves most of the credit for actually playing defense and becomming that SuperStar.

Don't you think McMillan, as an example, would have spent years preaching defense to Durant? Don't you think McMillan - as he did with Roy - would have force feed Durant play after play after play and implored him to take it to the rack as much as possible?

And what did Brooks have to do with Durant being awarded a record number of free throws? Nothing I say. That was all about the New York office sending The Signal.

Not saying Brooks is bad. Just that there are 10 or 20 or 30 other guys who would have done very similar things as Brooks if they were in his shoes.

The number 1 credit for Brooks winning the award?

Team health. Without the unusual health of the team, they don't even make the playoffs. No playoffs, no way he wins.

Durant runs that team, and has simply adjusted to the NBA.

Brooks merely rode his coat-tails.
