Good one maxiep.

Guess we will see what you guys think of turner in a year after some of you have actually watched him play for the first time.
Of course, you're correct. None of us have ever seen Evan Turner play. What would we ever do without your genius insight to guide us?

Yeah, no. Thats not at all it.

Its about losing players that have value around the league for nothing. Both the turner and crabbe deal would be a little rich.

Crabbe is younger with more potential and played well for us last year.
Pray tell, have we lost Crabbe for nothing? And what could we get for him, since you're so wise?

And Crabbe doesn't have more potential. He's not as quick, not as strong, not as physical and doesn't have Turner's BBIQ.

Quick trade lillard for picks. The only way to get better is to get more lillards in the draft!

1) Even if we match a deal for Crabbe, he is likely gone. The point of my lineups thread is that there is no way to give both Crabbe and Turner the minutes they deserve (unless you do something dumb like extremely curtail Mo's minutes).

2) If we don't match, I'll be disappointed. I was hoping for a Tier 1 FA, and we instead SKIPPED free agency altogether opting to instead "trade" Crabbe for Turner. In essence, we let it bake. Our cap space, to me, represented an extra player, call him Mr. MaX. Mr. MaX was basically injured last year. Now, it looks like we lost MaX for nothing - disappointing.

One's career trajectory is still on the upswing.

That statement is debatable as to whether it would apply to the other player. Sadly, that's the player that appears locked to the Blazers.

All im saying is the grass isnt always greener. And lots of people around here have said themselves they dont watch anyone other than the blazers.

Damn i feel like this is groundhog day like the Bill Murray movie and all i see is whining about Turner and FA and yes me trying to convince people stop acting like the sky is falling. I will love to be proving right when all this is said and done and i can say -- Told you it would work out

I misread this. The RFA's cap hold does not increase to the amount of an offer sheet he signs.

This does mean that Neil will have the chance to match or not any or all our RFAs. If any signs an offer sheet at 12:01, Neil would have to use our remaining cap space within the time to match period or lose it. He can go over the cap to sign them using exceptions after using the cap space.

38. How much do free agents count toward team salary?

A restricted free agent is included in team salary by the greatest of:

  • His free agent amount (as defined in the table above)
  • The amount of his qualifying offer (see question number 44)
  • The first-year salary in a first refusal exercise notice (a notice given to the player that the team is exercising its right of first refusal by matching an offer sheet (see question number 44)

I know nothing of the guy, can't even say I've seen him play. Stats is all I seen and that don't look like 70m.

But now he is a Blazer! Golly! What next?

That's not what you said. You said none of us had ever seen Evan Turner play before. You said that we could trade Crabbe and get value for him. You said that anyone who didn't have a negative view of Turner signing with us or Crabbe signing with Brooklyn was participating in group think.

No shit the grass isn't always greener. However, Evan Turner can be a very nice role player. We badly need help with perimeter D, and he's a good one. The Blazers thought he was the best of who would come here. The financial landscape is nuts right now, so all the deals will be ridiculous. Besides, we haven't yet lost Crabbe.

You want to be pissed off about free agency, fine. Plan A didn't work. Probably not Plan B or C either. I have a wait-and-see attitude.

Go back and read maxiep. I said "some of you"

Its not illogical to think we could trade crabbe for something.

I guess we will see how the cards fall.

I for one couldn't care less about the money involved. There is a lot being thrown around everywhere and doesn't affect me at all. Having more of it just gives people more excuses to complain how much is being spent. Since FA is not a reliable building tactic for Portland and never has been regardless of GM, it is not in our interest to let players walk nor to plan for free agency. I'm pretty sure Neil understands that now.

Okey dokey. Let's assume he signs for 4 years, $70MM. Who would trade for that contract? That's insane.

I like Crabbe a lot, and losing him would hurt . But finding a replacement for his outside shooting is easier than finding the skill sets of someone like ET. It might take a year to do find someone or a year for one of our young players to improve to AC's level. But not matching is not a bad alternative.

However I doubt anyone knows the Blazer's intent just yet on whether or not to match.
And I hope they do match

I'm pretty sure it matters to players.

If you get paid like a starter there's ton of pressure to put that guy in a starting role even if it might not be the most advantageous role for them.

In Turner's case I think he'd probably be best served coming off the bench in most situations and possibly playing 24 minutes a game. That's going to be a tough sell to him and whether or not GMs are willing to admit it, they want their big off-season signing in a large role too. The pressure on Stotts to make him our starting three is going to come from two directions.

People laughed at me when I suggested he was worth 11 million earlier in the season....
And they laughed at your max deal thread which was just a hypothetical question.

Guys with 3 and D reputations are valuable and from all indications he is seen as the most valuable of the three of our rfas. It would be idiotic to let him go for nothing.

To be fair, I didn't actually know his max was 20+. I actually thought his max was like 17.5....... :rotfl:....... :sigh:

Not too far off if he does get 4/70. Cause as has been said, last years cap would equate to 11-12 million if he has a similar contract set up to evan turner.
