The Portland Trail Blazers have informed Allen Crabbe that they will pick up his contract for next season

I'm still not sure he's the be all and end all, but he knows our system and he comes very cheap. He's worth another year, even if he ends up trade filler in February.

He filled in well as a starter. Probably was more effective than Batum the games he started. It was a small sample size but still a good sign.

He's the only player on this roster that's a good defender and a good 3 point shooter. Coaches have a way of getting those guys on the court more than expected. Ime Udoka and Batum both unexpectedly started for us as rookies in those roles. I expect Crabbe to be the backup SF but who knows.

Sorry, gotta nitpick just a little. Udoka played 12 NBA games over two seasons prior to his season in Portland; he wasn't technically a rookie.

Otherwise, I completely agree with everything you wrote. Harkless is going to have to work very hard to supplant Crabbe as the primary backup 3, IMO.

I really think crabbe is gonna show people something good this year. Hopefully we all get to witness his coming out party

Blazers management spends summer Crabbe fishing.

I liked what I saw of him in summer league very much. He looked really good on that stretcher. I think he's got a future as a Blazer.

If Harkless plays well he could force Aminu to the 4. Or him/ Crabbe could get minutes at SG. I don't find that necessarily probable but with such an unproven roster there's numerous spots for basically every player to work into the rotation.

He's a cog player. He fits in extremely well without making things worse, but isn't the kind of guy you can go to say "Go get me 30 points." Which is completely fine. You need guys like him.
