Cup of Joe and a game: Wizards vs. Blazers game thread

This is maddening. This was such a winnable game. Washington is HORRIBLE. But with no Roy, our offense looks gross.

Now we have to beat Philly or we are looking at a 1-3 or 0-4 road trip. And we usually get smoked by the 6'ers . . . this was a game we had to have today.

I thought the offense looked 'OK', it was the defense today that was abysmal. They absolutely dominated us with points in the paint and trips to the stripe.

I hope the trainers let Roy play next game.
I hope they let his hamstring get right. If this was the playoffs I'd understand pushing the timetable on his return but today no way. They have plenty of other guards worthy of those minutes

This might stop those silly threads about how great Nate is. This team wins because of Brandon Roy period.

I agree 85%. I think sometimes you can win without your best player, but in the long run a team missing Brandon Roy (+ everyone else) that relies too much on outside shooting, will struggle occasionally.

Yep.

And for those wanting to know how we have won without Brandon, it comes down to rediculous outside shooting, Jerryd Bayless having the game of his life, and a team playing unharacteristically shitty.

If by "Ok" you mean "As good as we can expect w/o Brandon" . . . the Wiz are one of the worst defensive teams in the league. The only points in the paint we could get were from 'Dre or Lamarcus offensive rebounds.

The defense has been abysmal for a while now - I've come to expect that with how thin we are in the front court.

I believe the Wiz were 30th coming into todays game. Thats pretty bad that we lost to them.

All season long we've been losing games to teams we shouldn't, and winning games we have no business of winning. I have a feeling it's going to take a win in Boston to make this a 2-2 road trip. If Brandon doesn't play Wednesday (hell, even if he does- Philly just has our number) that could be an 0-2 on this trip.

This game had trouble written all over it. 10AM tipoff? Who didn't see that as a potential problem? We've struggled with early tips in Toronto for years.

Even without Roy we should've won this game - the offensive execution in the last 4 minutes was atrocious.

Truthfully, if it wasn't for Andre Miller we would have seen 48 minutes of atrocious execution. Teams are starting to trap us when Bayless/Blake are in there and that just makes things look ugly. If not for Dre's foul trouble, he might have carried us to a win. The guy is playing phenomenal basketball right now.

We're back to an awful .500 mark against the Eastern Conference. We are killing against our own conference, but failing badly against the weak sisters.

Blazers are fun to watch . . . but without a proven big man down low, they aren't going to go very far this year.

when the D turned it up a notch down the stretch the team didn't have anyone who could separate. They flat missed open jumpers as well... they lived by that sword the previous game vs the Magic

Other than Miller, there just wasn't any playmakers out there. Andre kept us in that game.

3 easons we lost the game..

1. rudy was awful 1-8 and not close

2. bayless sucks

3. no defense and no rebounding

fucking okc has a better road record then us.

Could Be. No Roy killed us today. If he's out this hole trip, it could be 0-4.

Okc does have a better road record than us, but Dallas and the Lakers are the only teams in the West that have a better road record than Okc. So in reality, we have the 4th best road record in the conf at 9-10.

Is KP still saying he gets a lot of calls about Rudy? Trade him NOW while the league is still fascinated with him. All he can do is shoot, and once or twice every couple of weeks he sneaks back door for a lob. His ball handling is suspect and he's too careless with the ball, if you play him physical he shrivels up in the fetal position, he has no off the dribble game (not exactly ideal when you are a SG), and his defense isn't all that good. So when he's not knocking down 3's, he's pretty much worthless. Bayless drives me nuts at times also, but at least he has the ability to make a play.

sweet, Rudy is this years Jarrett Jack!

and by that I mean "player that people hyperbole about when he has a bad game and want him traded because they have an extremely short attention span".

Rudy can go 8-10 and I still feel the same way. The guy just doesn't have a very well rounded/SG game. I'm not saying trade him for the sake of getting him out of here, but if there IS interest around the league . . . of all of the "prospects", he's the easiest one to part with for me - by far.

last year we beat bad teams....

this kind of loss with the bucks loss and 2 grizz losses could cot us the playoffs.

you cannot lose to the wiz.... at this point

Dammit! Why didn't you say so before the game? The team really needed to read that.

So Nate gets a team full of scrubs, with no true center and you're expecting him to win? And if he doesn't that just shows the people who are okay with Nate how wrong they are?????

Ridiculous. Borderline insane.

Why is it so hard for you to admit that part of the team's success may be due to Nate? I don't think anyone who is okay with Nate (which apparently around here is akin to being a devil worshiper) wouldn't also admit that part of the success is due to the players. I think that's pretty much the standard definition of how good teams become successful.

What the hell do you have against Devil worshipers?

I think a lot of the way the team plays is because of Nate. I thiknk almost all of the way the team wins is because of the players.

I'll bring up just one example. We lost the MEM game in large part b/c Brandon Roy, who had the ball in his hands on an isolation with 26 or so seconds left (as if he had never been in the position before in 4 years in the league) had to look over to the bench to see when he could start the play. When he looked, the ball was stolen. Instead of it being a tie game, with just about the last shot in the hands of our star, we're down 2.

Tell me, which other all-star in the league has to look to the bench to know when to go on that play? And do you think that's Roy's fault, or the coaching staff's?

I would say that's Roy's fault. He should know when to go, adn know the play that was just drawn up. They just called a full timeout, and drew up a play. He's been in that situation countless times. I can't imagine why they would say THIS time, hey, we'll signal for you when to go. Maybe they threw a different look than we expected, and he turned to get an opinion, but that's entirely on Roy. No reason to turn like that and not pay attention to the defender.

So I guess our record now means nothing, eh?

People want to write off last year, and the improvement from the year before, and the record this year and and and... so what exactly is the basis for a success by a coach? If it's championship or nothing then there are MANY failed coaches.
