CHICAGO (AP)—A woman found shot to death in a Chicago apartment was a former girlfriend of New York Knicks player Eddy Curry and the mother of his 3-year-old son, Curry’s attorney said Sunday.

A relative found the bodies of Nova Henry, 24, and her 9-month-old daughter, Ava, in their apartment near the South Side on Saturday evening, Chicago police spokeswoman Monique Bond said. Both died from multiple gunshot wounds, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said Sunday.

Curry’s 3-year-old son was found unharmed at the scene. Curry is a former player for the Chicago Bulls.

Chicago police offered few details of the investigation at a news conference Sunday.

Deputy Superintendent Steve Peterson said police want to talk to someone who was “the object of an order of protection” but that person has not been located yet.

He declined to give further information.

Rob Bryant, who said he was Nova Henry’s uncle, told the Chicago Sun-Times that Henry had a restraining order against her boyfriend. “She was trying to avoid all this,” Bryant said.

Curry’s attorney, Kelly Saindon, said the basketball player’s family was devastated.

The Knicks issued a statement Sunday on Curry’s behalf asking the media to respect the privacy of the two families.

“The Curry family is deeply saddened by this tragic loss and will keep the Henry family in their prayers,” the statement said.

The city recently has seen several high-profile deaths blamed on domestic violence. A brother-in-law of Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges he fatally shot Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew. Prosecutors allege William Balfour killed them in October because he was upset the actress’s sister had been dating another man.

After tragic shooting, benched Eddy Curry's life, NBA career in shambles

Larry Brown once branded Eddy Curry the cornerstone of the franchise, a center in the Patrick Ewing mold who would dominate the rest of the NBA and lead the Knicks back to prominence.

Big, mobile and talented, Curry seemed to possess all the physical tools to support Brown's bold claim. But three years after the Hall of Fame coach predicted greatness for the young center, Curry's career is now at a crossroads, and his personal life in crisis.

These days, no one is mentioning Curry in the same breath with the league's top big men. Instead, friends, teammates and former coaches wonder if Curry - injured, out of shape and facing unimaginable personal hardship - will ever play again, much less return to being a starting center.

"Who knows what will happen?" Charles Oakley said. "I like Eddy. But you just don't know. He's gone through a lot on and off the court."

Curry's last two seasons have been beset by injuries and personal tragedy. On Saturday, Curry's former girlfriend, the mother of his 3-year-old son, was found shot to death in her Chicago apartment. A relative found the bodies of Nova Henry, 24, and her 9-month-old daughter, Ava, according to Chicago police. Curry's son was found unharmed at the scene. Curry has four children with his wife, Patrice.

In 2007, Curry and Patrice were bound and robbed inside their suburban Chicago mansion, the victims of a home invasion by three assailants. Just two weeks ago, Curry claimed to be a victim when his former driver filed a civil lawsuit accusing Curry of making sexual advances and pointing a loaded gun at him. The ex-driver, David Kuchinsky, also accused Curry of directing racist comments toward him. Curry has denied all claims.

"I can't imagine what he's going through," said Rick Brunson, Curry's friend and former teammate with the Chicago Bulls. "He's always been one of my favorites. He's just a big, joyful kid."

Curry is expected to return home to Chicago for Henry's funeral, but a team source indicated that Curry will be with the Knicks for tonight's home game against the Houston Rockets.

That's pretty fucking terrible.

And where the hell did the Rick Brunson quote come from.

Same place the Oakley quote came from.

Agreed it's horrible. Unfortunately, Curry's the poster child for why HSers shouldn't be allowed in the league (ask Stern!), and idle hands is the devil's playground when it comes to such an immature guy with all that money.

The news about him hasn't been good for a long time.

It really can't get any worse for him. My heart goes out to him and his family.

Not to sound like a d-bag or anything, but he's pretty much untradable.

Well, apparently the baby was Curry's too.
A confidential court document filed in September reveals a DNA test confirmed Curry as the biological father of Ava, whose last name is the same as a man questioned by police about the slayings, sources said.

I'd say this makes it more horrible, but there's really no way I can fathom it being any more horrible than it already was.
