Three years removed from retiring because of a serious heart ailment, former NBA guard Cuttino Mobley is interested in catching on with a team, according to FoxHouston.com.

Mobley, 35, has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which was discovered during a routine physical after he was traded from the Los Angeles Clippers to the New York Knicks. Before being forced to leave the game for health reasons, the combo guard played 11 seasons for four different teams, with his best seasons coming for the Houston Rockets.

"It's a lot of different variations of HCM," Mobley said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. "Me playing 40 minutes a game for 11 years straight at a very high level.

"Mine is not serious at all. As you can see 11 years of playing and still playing three years later after they said you shouldn't play. You shouldn't run. You shouldn't do this. You shouldn't play that. A lot of different things they said you shouldn't do."

I know the Blazers have had some injury problems, but Mobley would be a cheap, ancillary character off the bench and, if truly healthy, could prove to be a great, veteran bench presence.

There are a lot of younger options out there. With our injury history, I would want someone that could play significant time if needed.

I'd be surprised if he could still contribute game minutes, but I wouldn't mind having him around practice for Barton to learn from. I see a lot of similarities between them, with Barton's biggest weaknesses (patience, control, outside shooting) being strengths of Cat.

A player dropping dead on the court. That would just be the icing on the cake for the Blazers injury curse. Umm...no.

(Isn't that what happened to Batum's dad?)

Sure if he's still available after we make our major moves first.
