OT Dallas officer goes home to wrong apartment, kills man inside, police say

Welcome to our community

...I'll ask again, if she really thought she was at her own apartment why would she be banging on the door and yelling "let me in"?...if, in her mind she thought it was her own apartment she would have also had her own key and therefore would not have had to yell "let me in"...she could have simply unlocked the door and walked in.
...there are things here that just don't add up.

The more I think about it, the more I think you're on to something... "Let me in"? Who the fuck would say that if you found someone in your apartment? Like no one. You'd call for backup and watch the door from down the hallway or something. There's a sense of familiarity in those words: let me in. Sounds more like a lover's spat than a case of the wrong apartment...

...yeah, again, we don't have all the facts yet bit that's the impression I get...I don't see a cover up, I just think the girl is not telling the truth.

If they found some of her stuff in the apartment, the chances that she's completely lying and had a relationship with him is sky high.

Her story hasn't made sense since the beginning.

That's what happens when people who don't want to pay taxes get their way. Government services go downhill.

Then what’s happened to the State of Oregon hell we have the worst road in the country but probably the best by cycle paths.
It’s when government doesn’t spend the monies the correct way. Just my opinion no need to call me a right wing racist!

We most definitely do NOT have the best bike "paths," by the way.

I looked but didn’t find a breakdown of spending on bike vs auto roads but it is hard to imagine that the bike spending is more than a tiny fraction. Besides needing less real estate, bikes don’t wear out the pavement. Bikes don’t need roads and bridges that can support tons of weight. All in all, it has to be much cheaper to build and maintain bikeways.

We also have more cyclists than most places in the US. So it kind of makes sense to spend money on them, so they stay on bikes and not in cars. The road problems would be worse, not better, if we got rid of the bikes.

No one has said that. We are saying the cover up is though.

Why the fuck is Fox noise "reporting" that he had weed in his house?

Exactly...
You mean there are people who don't have weed in their house?

More bikes mean less cars. Less cars mean fewer accidents and cleaner air not to mention less road rage.

Firing her for being incompetent it's the LEAST that should've been done.

As a police officer, If you shoot someone you completely shouldn't have and that should be a fireable offense.

If I'm grossly negligent on my job, I could be fired.
You think?

I'd say she needs to spend a few years behind bars A cop amongst inmates? I believe she'd regret shooting that very nice young man.

Fired and charged with manslaughter.

So far. The charges would be increased if they find any evidence of intent.

Good. This rarely happens.

Most times regardless the officer isn't punished at all.

Key sentence here:

"The federal suit argues that Guyger used excessive force in the shooting and contends the department did not give her adequate training."

That's the Dallas FUCKING police department!!! How many other officers have inadequate training????

To the people who have advocated against creating a 4 year degree program for law enforcement....

What's your logical argument against having one when HAIR STYLISTS have more training than our police officers???

In Oregon:

The minimum requirements to be considered include: An age of 21 or older. A high school diploma or GED. Either 60 college credit hours, experience as a police officer in another state, or two years of experience working in a non-officer capacity at an Oregon law enforcement agency.

HS diploma? Check.

16 week police academy? Check.

Gun. Badge. Salute.

Good!

Maybe that man and his family can get some sort of justice...

Posthumously...
Can't wait for the transcripts of the trial so we can find out what really happened.

80/20 she killed this guy on purpose and thought her lame "I accidentally went in the wrong apartment" story would keep her from getting busted.

IF she really did that her attorney needs to get a brain scan ordered and look for tumors or some other defect.

I never agreed with your 4 years of college for cops but I guess it wouldn't hurt. If people are getting degrees in stuff that doesn't even have much use in the real world it isn't that much of a stretch.

I'd suggest more of a 1 year type program. With TONS of psychological testing..

Read above. They have 2 years of "on the job training"...

It's fucking bullshit. Guess how much money they make?

Average Police Officer Yearly Salary in Oregon. Police Officers earn an average yearly salary of $68,170. Salaries typically start from $48,660 and go up to $82,330.

You mean to tell me I make just a bit less than a cop???

Create a 4 year degree program and START them at 80K+ (Hell I'd advocate for more).

Then they won't need a union and they actually NOT do dumb shit so they'd KEEP that job.

Fine, but they have to agree to an unbelievably stiff code of conduct.

Bro.... WE'RE AGREEING!!!!!

:blazerwookie:
We agree all the time. You just remember the times I disagree more.

We both hate...

Money in politics
Corporate welfare
Police abuse (I've hated this for years)
Stop and Frisk
White privilege (I just didn't take advantage of mine as much as I should have)

Stuff like that. We just disagree on a ton of other things. Heck, most of the time we agree on the problems just not the solutions.

When I got out of the Army the first job I applied for was working as a city of Portland Police Officer but I wasn't qualified for two very good reasons: 1) I had no four year degree; 2) I wore glasses. They need to get back to that.
Police academy ought to be at least one year. I'm okay with the 2 years of OJT if the other requirements are met.
