Dame all but demanding vet roster (1 Viewer)

This just isn't the case.

Let's imagine in real life that we want to be rich. We have $1. Do we spend the $1 on a hot dog, or do we buy a lottery ticket? By buying a lottery ticket, we have a very, very small chance of becoming rich... but by buying a hot dog we have NO CHANCE of becoming rich.

That's where the Blazers are, as I see it. There is no path to winning a title with Dame, so we should not buy that hot dog to try to get rich. We should go down the path of a lottery ticket.

That has nothing to do with trust in Cronin or not. It has to do with the fact that our roster is too far away and giving up assets to make Dame happy is dumb assuming you want to contend for a title, rather than hope to have a team good enough not to shut dudes down with a month to go in NBA seasons.
Zion is a lotto ticket. If we could get Zion for #3 it's a big gamble but if it paid off we would be contenders, especially if all that the Pels want is the third pick so we could move Ant to a team that wants him and send expiring contracts with #3 to NOLA and get back whatever value we can squeeze out of a team for Ant.

I also don't see it as being as hopeless as you do in a number of other situations that we could contend with Dame leading the way. If we could get Bridges and Claxton for #3 while moving Ant elsewhere for pieces that bolster what we need off of the bench, that team could contend. If we could acquire Siakam and still acquire additional pieces in a similar way, that team could contend.

We'll see what everything looks like in the next week and a half or so but I think we have a great chance to put the best roster around Dame that he has had since he's been at his best, I think that does equal a contending team, you don't... so like everything else we will wait and see.

I buy something lotto every day. Just a buck, unless i win a few. Haven't won, but i do keep on trying. Sometimes a hot dog is really good. But i get sick of them rapidly. So if the Blazers are a hot dog , at least sometimes it's just right. But the Lotto is a crapshoot for sure. If i win though, i will be able to go to a lot more Blazers games. Don't forget the mustard.

Don't ever underestimate "the smarts of Mike Schmitz".
There is a reason he's on board.....Shaedon Sharpe is here because of Mike Schmitz....Next?

We get an all nba level player and Shaedon pops to a near all star level. We balance the roster getting a C that makes sense with the scheme and strengthening the bench. None of that is unrealistic and I think it equals a contender.

So, if we added solid players around Dame there is No Chance? By the end of summer Dame could have 6-8 new players of great skill level around him, and a few dogs that play D.
If they address front line length and strength, point of attack D and an improved deep bench, why couldn't they at possibly contend within a year or two?
lol... yes Trader Joe should absolutely pull 6-8 magic bunnies out of his ass. If he doesn't, he sucks at his job and possibly hates America

SS had a PER last season of 11.5... 15 is the mean of an average NBA player. We all have hopes of what he might become someday, but in the meantime get a grip

Yeah that stat might be extremely skewed due to the fact that the kid obviously had an adjustment period at the beginning of the season.

His game log is public, so there is no ambiguity as to when he excelled which was down the stretch when he was the lead scoring option (Dame out) in 48 minutes of garbage time. In those 8 glorious games down the stretch when he started, Portland was 2-6 and averaged losing by 17 each game which includes those two victories.

You are kidding yourself (not me) if you think he showed he's ready. Dude is really promising, but has a looooooong way to go.

you get GRIP pal, I was just voicing my opinion.

just base it in something tethered to reality, thats not too much to ask. Good grief this place is ridiculous in the offseason

I don't know it all by any means, but expecting/expressing this roster might be getting 6-8 studs this offseason is lotto odds/not going to happen nonsense. Outside the #3 and future firsts their assets are not much. In my most optimistic moments forecasting the Blazer's future I hope to add 2 viable pieces to the mix next season without dealing Dame... okay 3 if you don't subtract for a viable piece going out. Your 6-8 post reads like looney tunes.

I want the best for the Trailblazers. ChampionshipS. But please for the love of Jebus, lets stay reality based

They most certainly could have 6 or so new players on the team and yes ones that have great skills. When you consider, potential trades, FA signings (and there will be a few vets signed) and possible draft picks you could have a very different looking team. Try and have some vision if you want to follow sports. If you dont know where you're going you'll end up somewhere else. Geez Louise...

Buying a lotto ticket is not a good path to success.

We have a much better path to a title with Dame than with a lotto ticket.

We are almost certainly far closer to a title now with Dame than we'd be 5 years after trading Dame.

We can buy lotto tickets any time.

Are we? 3 out of the last 4 years sub .500 and the last 2 years, we were so bad we chose to tank. Nurk/Grant/Hart/Ant/Dame was so bad they had to tank. Yes....injuries, traded Hart, things that happen to every team every year. That is a lineup you wouldn't expect to be that unproductive. If they were that bad, how much better are they going to be with adding a player or 2 while subtracting depth and potential generational talent?

Yes. We chose to tank because we weren't good enough to make a push for a title and needed an infusion of talent on our roster, and we had no roster flexibility.

So in tanking, Ant has far more value now than he did prior to tanking. We now have Sharpe and the #3 pick. That is talent that we COULD NOT have gotten with the roster Olshey had built. Tanking sucked, but it didn't cost us Dame, and now we have the opportunity to put a more talented, experienced, and balanced team around him than he has ever had.

There is simply not a more direct path to competing than this available by trading Dame.

A lot of different lines up during those 3 years. As you mentioned every team deals with injuries but not everyone
decides to tank on purpose. Two new players and another two who could be a lot better.......I would not base how far off we are
on our play last year. Just like I would not base it on our good start last year before the injuries. It all comes down to which player or two that we add IMO.
