Dame asks for trade (And there it is) (1 Viewer)

It's because they aren't. When you've negotiated a near 50/50 revenue split you are more than just employees. When you have employees and are business owners and have multiple multimillion dollar revenue streams, you are more than just an employee. When so many teams have accommodated trade requests, it becomes part of the business model. Dame made a mistake in only giving one option, in my opinion, but he's right that when you view professional athletes' contracts the same way you view other employment contracts, you're being naive. There is a helluva lot more nuance when it comes to NBA teams and players than just employers and employees.

That being the case, I think the solution is simple: Dame and the other players start their own league. They can negotiate arenas, hire GMs, put together schedules, make rules, pay ticketsellers. Maybe they can just have informal rosters and play for whoever they want to on given nights.

They are not product. They are WORKERS. And they are not children working in China.

It’s entertainment, just like a movie or a TV show. They’re no different than an actor. Coach is a director. The GM is a producer. They all play their part. And if the content isn’t entertaining, people don’t watch. Just like a movie or show. The last five or six years have been stale, and that’s usually when a show gets cancelled.

That tweet did not say workers, or entertainment. The tweet Lillard responded to said,
"NBA players are business".

Remember the mean crusty old Owner of the Clippers that got fired? And the Suns recently fired Owner ??

They were saying BAD stuff behind closed doors. Things like, "players are product" leaked out...

what happened after that??
everyone went omg... that's horrible, and the Owners were given their walking papers.

Now, if ya'll want to change the wording of the tweet and contrive your own variation of what the tweet implied, I'm not here to stop you. But i'll just say the rando trash boy tweet that Lillard responded to is skating on thin ice.

There's a HUGE difference between calling players "product" and saying that they are businesses. I mean, it's completely night and day different.

Ironic that you literally changed the wording yourself.

"NBA teams/players are businesses which is why they sign contracts."

"businesses" is a different word than "business"

don't give me this "es" stuff.
You know what that tweet is trying to describe.
NBA players are people. They are highly gifted athletes. They are human beings. They are hired by a "team" to help create an entertaining work environment. Are they part of the business? absolutely. But NBA players are people first, and they work realy super hard to try to produce a fun to watch product. Players are people, not the businesses.

teams/players is a conjoined word. It means exactly the same thing. The 2 descriptive nouns were not separated in that tweet. They were combined as one word. It was not a clerical error. The tweet was designed with full intentions to make a bigatory statement towards Fentress and Dame, which Lillard simply responded to as "dumb".

try and make Lillard the bad guy for saying a dumb tweet was dumb? Such a Villain, meanest player EVER.

Players have a union and representative so they are more than well represented as far as contracts and agents are concerned but draft picks are also assets. Nobody is going to ever convince me Damian Lillard was poorly represented or treated by the Blazers period. What transpired really stopped roster momentum July 1st and still actually since they have left roster spots open for trades and been unable to make moves in limbo.

yes ..!.. that new top 5 rookie next summer is gonna be dope, and we can blame Dame all the way up to next year's ping pong ball extravaganza. #1 !! #1 !!
Blazers can put a new billboard on I-5
honk once for [_____], honk twice for [_____]

Flatly disagree... we have skills and we sell those skills. NBA players are no different. I went to college to obtain a skillset that I use to get money. Calling it business is such a vague and wide ranging term for it, but it's not necessarily wrong. If they were considered consultants or contractors, they would be self-employed. Do NBA players file a W2?

NBA players file a 1040. They receive a W2. The Blazers file the W2.

I don't understand why the people/employee/brand/business classifications came up here.

Paul Allen and Jody may get W2's from the Blazers. Yeah I guess that would make them employees too; even if they are also the owner. Plenty of owners of business get a W2 for the employee duties or even the CEO type duties they do.

I think it's silly not to look at athletes..... or actors.... or really any celebrity as anything other than a business.

They do endorsements.

They have a brand.

Dame has made A LOT of money outside of basketball. So I'm not sure why anyone would look at someone like Dame and think of him as anything other than a businessman. His product is himself. Especially after this whole NIL money has come into college sports. NIL is big business for many celebrities. So yes, Dame collects money for PLAYING basketball, but his business goes beyond that. His music... his commercials... his shoes.... All part of his brand/business.

I now think next few weeks something gets done

It does make sense with a 3rd or more teams (Herro/etc) being essential in this deal that the discussions would take a break while most of the entire league is on vacation then pickup as we get closer to camp.

Yes theres a business dynamic that this can be viewed from with Dame or every star NBA player.

I'm not sure if maybe some fans hear business and think that means its unpassionate, unemotional, cutthroat, or every decision reduced to immediately selfishly grabbing dollars. Yes it can be, but it doesn't have to be.

Plenty of people have devoted the majority of time in their lives to something related to their business. Or they make business decisions that spend a ton of money immediately with zero return - but it may eventually help them with goodwill/marketing/connections.

I might have found Fentress's burner.

What are the odds that there's another account on X-Twitter that stans Fentress posts, is anti-Blazer front office and goes by the addy @Fentocity? Or maybe it was @Fentrocity.

When Joe wasn't able to negotiate a deal last year with #7 and undoubtably knew he had to get something done so he went into tank mode. I believe he was sincere in wanting to pull something to keep Dame here, however, when we got #3, I believed his strategy immediately changed, even though he publicly said after the lottery that it was still his intention to build around Dame, and he would gauge the market for #3 and other assets. This is where Dame jumped off, he knows Joe decided to play it safe for job security and not being able to hit the home run to build around Dame. #3 gave him the perfect opportunity to change direction.
Starting over and going young everyone knows most GM's, get at least 2-4 years to create something when they go young and rebuild.

If nets were willing to give up Mikal for #3, I bet Joe makes the trade.

Came from the tweet I posted last night.

I'm sure there were lots of trade scenarios that would make sense to us that were never considered by the other team.

Look at what Miami is offering for Damian Lillard.

What was Joe Cronin supposed to trade Scoot Henderson for?

What is the trade that Cronin didn't make that Dame is mad about?

He is mad because Joe chose Scoot over OG

Now, as you are good at "words", please explain word "team" to Lillard.
