Dame needs 20 points tonight to tie Clyde. 21 makes him the all-time leading scorer for the Blazers.

He's also 80 assists away from matching Clyde for #2 on the all-time assist list. (Terry Porter is about 385 or so ahead of Clyde for #1).

I'm still partial to Clyde a bit. He played better defense and had better results. I am hoping Lillard can get some of those same results or better.

We'll have to start a new thread every day now since every time he scores from now on he'll set a new Blazers scoring record

it's wild to think that the guy who breaks this record might not be born yet.

or it could be shaedon...

Clyde didn't get better results until we got Buck Williams
He still played better defense. Better results due to better players around him has never really been in question.
Does Jerami Grant match what Buck Williams was worth? Who was better? Nurk or Duck? Does Hart match what Kersey brings? I don't think Billups can match Rick Adleman but i guess that is to be determined. Terry Porter vs Simons? Hmmm wash? Then you have Danny Ainge? Now that is a tough one? Ainge was as smart as they come and made huge plays during games.
Now lets get down to real brass tacks. Who is actually better on the court. Drexler or Lillard? Would the Blazers be better today with prime Drexler? I think we all know the answer to that question is a yes.

The relative strengths of Clyde and Dame is a good topic to discuss over a beer. Both great players. Ultimately, for me, Dame’s loyalties to the franchise and the City tip the scales in his direction as far as greatest Blazer ever. Your mileage may vary.

Dame’s loyalties to the franchise
You know this is a great point. However, Clyde was very loyal as well until the Blazers decided to go another direction. There are those that have said this needs to happen with Lillard as well.
“The only reason I left Portland – they were starting to rebuild. Because after all those great years, I had some injuries on my knees. And they kind of gave up a little too soon. So they started rebuilding and got rid of Kevin Duckworth. And I was like ‘Hold up guys, we don’t have a center’. Then they started saying ‘we need to rebuild, we need to trade some of these veterans while they can still play so we can get something for them. And that’s when I orchestrated the move to Houston. But if they hadn’t done that, I would’ve finished my career there.”
-Clyde Drexler

Here's a question. Clyde racked up his points during his 11 years with the Blazers. How many years has Dame been a Blazer? I think Dame has scored more points per year than Clyde did.

He currently is in his 11th year

Additional 3 point shooting and the fact that the team relied much heavier on Lillard might have had some effect on this? Not taking anything away from Dame. Just different game?

I love them both....neither diminishes the other. Comparing across era's is pointless.
I like them both also. Comparing them is probably pointless as you say but it is going to happen. Bottom line I still feel if I have to choose a player in their prime I am choosing Drexler.

exactly

in Clyde's first six seasons he led Portland to exactly 1 win outside of the first round. Portland's playoff record with Clyde, but without Buck was 9-20

Clyde had one big advantage over Dame: he wasn't saddled with an idiot GM for a decade

Dame has to get some extra credit for hauling that 2019 squad to the WCF. I mean, Meyers Leonard as starting center???

Clyde played 867 games for Portland. Dame has played 730. So Dame broke the record while playing 137 games less

Yes.....due to the current game being much more 3-point oriented. Dame dwarfs Clyde in '3's, but Clyde actually still has more FGs made. Different game. 3-pt shooting had just barely started when Clyde came into the league, so not even a thing growing up, in high school, or maybe even early in college.

Dame grew up with his and is maybe the #2 long distance shooter in NBA history. Incredible range!
