Which it seems like only fans or highly paid front office people are cap nerds. The media is allergic to it.

the CBA FAQ is a difficult read. I've probably read nearly every section of it twice and my usual response to a CBA question starts with either "I don't know" or "IIRC" or "I could be wrong"

and that's the FAQ. The actual CBA is about 357 times as long and complicated as the FAQ

The actual CBA is a fun read! For losers like me, I suppose.

there's Dame trolls everywhere !! Are some of these "Blazer fans" actually bots hired by the franchise to protect Cronin & Jody Allen on social media and chat forums ?? I'm actually starting to wonder.

Just want to bump this. Too much he said, she said. Until he can be traded, the media is going to milk this for all it is worth. If not, we are stuck with a pretty slow sports news cycle.

Take a deep breathe, everything will be ok.

I am almost fifty and have accepted our fate. We almost always hear about the negatives associated with global warming.

What about the positives? There has to be something.
There are positives if you're a long-frozen bacteria about to be released from the permafrost. Are you?

Otherwise, no. Why would you think there'd be positives? You think the universe likes us?

Also: I take it you don't have children (or grandchildren)?

I might have struck a nerve here.

Jaquez Jr. can't get traded until August. I guess Miami has an extra pick they can trade if they remove protections

Well, humans are known to get more irritable at higher temperatures. More irritable people are known to do more stupid and aggressive things. On a worldwide scale, this raises the probability of nuclear warfare. Nuclear warfare creates nuclear winter. Global warming solved.

I don't think they can just arbitrarily remove protections. OKC probably would not let them, but OKC would probably give back the 2025 pick obligation for a 2nd round pick, leaving the 2026 unprotected pick in their hands. That frees up the 2024 first. Of course, that's very likely going to be in the 25-30 range so it's actual value is low. That would also allow the Blazers to have a swap of 2025 picks, but that's essentially worthless and would not be exercised

As Miami gets older, injuries will be a factor. And without much depth, I would not count their pick as being worthless. Even this year, while making it to the finals their pick was #18

they'd have Dame though and are not likely to finish 18th with Dame

I'm all in favor of Portland squeezing Miami for everything they can. I just think that some of the assets they may squeeze out of Miami won't have much value

Ironic that this post is what a bot would output. I'm actually starting to wonder.

Sure they will have Dame, but my point is what are the odds that Dame, Jimmy, and Bam will be healthy all year?
They may rest them knowing the regular season is not that important. And their recent success kind of proves that
strategy correct.

sure..ok

Dame had 9 winshares for crappy Portland last season playing only 58 games. Back out Herro's winshares, give Miami 6 more wins this season and they would have picked 24th.

again, I'm not arguing against getting Miami's pick next season. But it's more window dressing than substance IMO. It allows the Heat to say they are giving up 3 first's when one of the first's will have relatively weak value for a first. In fact, if it was a 3 team trade with Brooklyn I'd be in favor of shipping that 24th pick to the Nets and the Nets shipping an additional future first to Portland, if they'd do that.

what's important is for the Blazers to get Miami's 2028 & 2030 1st's and and a 2029 swap, all unprotected. If Cronin can't get those 3 assets, he should never do the deal, no matter what else is coming

July 10th is tomorrow.

will the Lillard trade to Miami make up for all the other bad moves that Cronin has delivered to Portland?

Why is getting fleeced by the Heat any different then anything else Cronin has done?

Cronin got us Scoot & Shaedon, all you do is complain, why are you even a Blazer fan ??

My complaint is the Blazers lose all the time. They've been cellar dwellars for 2 years. Yes they're getting good rookies, but so do all the other bad teams in the NBA.

Yeah the 2024 Heat pick shouldn't be regarded highly but it is something so I'd still push for it. Draft is weak. Who knows though the Heat will lose a lot of depth and if any of Bam Butler Dame miss extended games the pick could be better, even much better, than we expect. So yeah I'm not projecting a high value, but we can't write it off completely either.

I'd push to get a 2027 1st round pick from a 3rd team in the trade then have a swap with Miami on that as well (plus the Blazers contingent 2027 swap). Give the Blazers the best one or likely two of those picks and Miami gets the worst.

Having 4 years of Miami draft equity unprotected when Dame and Butler approach 40 is a huge haul and being very underrated IMO. People are focusing too much on the immediate assets or starters like Claxton/Martin/etc which just have extremely little impact to Portlands long term rebuild.

4 years of Miami picks could end up as one of the biggest draft hauls in NBA history. Yes there's risk it's weak picks and worth little. But none of the mediocre starters names being thrown around approach the potential of those picks if it breaks the Blazers way. In the NBA where only one of 30 teams (3%) wins it all each year having a high variance with high great upside is vastly superior to a guaranteed good but not great outcome.

Cronin's drafts have been fabulous.

The other 364 days of the year he has really sucked. I'm hoping the pressure and historical significance of the Dame trade pushes Cronin to stand firm and hold the line for a good deal.

Also hoping that the end of the dual timeline thread the needle ambitions make Cronin's choice much simpler and ultimately better.

I question Joe is the right GM to eventually get us to a contender, but as long as he builds assets here maybe he can either luck into building a contender or setup the franchise to have the next GM easily complete those steps.
