I was listening to wheels talk on the radio this morning and he mentioned that dame told quick he didn't want a trade. He wants to run with this group.

This sort of builds on my thought that a trade would most likely kill our momentum and send the wrong message to the team.

I wonder if Neil would step away from the table out of respect to dame.

Dame's being a leader.

NO should do what he thinks is best. He's earned my trust.

He says that every year. And we still make moves.

If Dame would have it his way, we'd have Maynor, DWright, Mo Wil, etc etc still on the team. He knows this is futile. Neil considers his opinion, sure, but he most likely will not make final decisions based on what Dame says.

Does he? I don't really remember him coming out and flat saying that he doesn't want a trade.

I can dig it. Though I wonder if it's partially about a personal accomplishment - taking this group to the POs when everyone (except us knowledgeable fans!) had them pegged as one of the worst teams in the league. If he does that it's a huge finger to LMA specifically, and the rest of the league/media in general.

As the season progresses more guys are making it onto my "BGD Untouchable List":

Dame
CJ
Harkless
Crabbe
Meyers

Obviously I don't want to overpay for Meyers, but I really want these players on the roster next season. If Henderson and Davis are happy with their roles I'd like to keep them, too, but am more open to moving them if an upgrade is available.

But unless a no-brainer presents itself I'm pretty good with us waiting until the off season to make any moves. And we could still absorb a contract while also getting a draft pick - we could just cut the player without them ever coming to PDX.

I know the tide has turned the other way on this one but I still wouldn't be surprised if we moved Henderson. There are guys who can easily pick up his minutes and while I understand he has been great lately I still don't believe he is here next year.

Yeah Neil will make a trade if it helps us in the long run. If he can get a "difference maker" he will not worry what Dame thinks. Because eventually Dame will be fine with it.

The question is will a smaller trade help. Will trading one of our guys who is playing well right now
(i.e Henderson) for a late 1st round pick......help us more in the long run. Personally I don't think you find a player better than Hendo (Who was a late lotto pick) in the late 1st round. But can we keep Gerald? Does Neil want to? That will be the tough decision IMO.

I don't know man.... Hendo's veteran presence makes him extremely valuable. He brings it on defense and he goes hard all the time. It's very difficult to replace that, paired with his exceptional bench production. If he was playing like this all year, he would be in the conversation for 6th man of the year.

And does Henderson even want to come back if he knows he is coming off the bench for sure. I know this is all speculation but a lot of things to think about. If the decision is Gerald or Crabbe (due to possible finances) this summer then the decision is easy in my mind.

What the fuck does Quick think he'd say? "Yeah, I hope we can trade some of this dead weight for someone who can bring a little toughness to the roster..."

What could he say? He could say the same thing that every pro athlete says when they're asked about trades. It's a business, that's not my decision. Blah blah blah. You can't tell me you haven't heard that line before.

Don't disagree with the first part at all. I think it is more of does Olshey even think Henderson wants to be here next year. There are rumblings that the man would prefer to start (well who wouldn't?) but the last part is another exaggeration. Crabbe isn't in the conversation for 6th man of the year and he has been doing it all year.

I don't think anyone's questioning Gerald's play. The reality however is that he will most likely be elsewhere next year. Is it worth keeping him knowing that?

I'm almost to the office and then I can look at stats. I shall reply soon [emoji1]

After watching last night's game I realized that I'm glad LaMarcus left because he was holding Dame back. Obviously LaMarcus was so talented we would've loved to keep him at the time but I think Dame would've continued to defer to him. This season Dame has been allowed to use the full force of his personality to lead this team and he just keeps improving. I really feel like he's a very special player and I'm really excited to see what he and the team does in the future. I expected this to be a bummer of a season but it has really been so much fun!

And, if we end up in play off position Terry Stotts should be coach of the year. I don't think anyone in the media picked the Blazers to go any higher in the rankings than 29.

How about Olshey for GM of the year too? Nobody (nationally) thought he could put together a playoff team after losing 4 of 5 starters.

And Dame respects Neil enough to recognize that everything he does is for the betterment of the team.

How many teams would he start for? He has started for bad teams before, does he want that again.? I am guessing if he gets paid enough he will be happy to come off the bench for a contender. That is where I see the competition for Henderson's service to be with.

Not me - the moment LMA announced his decision I knew this would be the most enjoyable season since Zach's breakout against DAL!

So here are his recent stats:

Over the last ten games he's averaging 11 ppg, 4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and he's shooting 47.7% from the field in 24.8 minutes per game.

In February (5 games) he's averaging 13.8 ppg, 5 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal while shooting 53% from the field in 28 minutes per game.

Allen Crabbe is ALSO having himself a month.

He's averaging 11.5 ppg, 2.5 rebounds, 1.8 steals, and he's shooting 56.7% in 27 minutes per game in February. So if people are wondering why we're winning games, it's because Crabbe and Hendo are collectively averaging 25 ppg off the bench while collectively shooting 54.85% from the field. When was the last time we had that kidn of bench production?

Yeah I get what dame is saying, but let Neil do his job.

If Neil can make a trade that sets us up well and/or improves the roster, why would we want to stand pat?

This philosophy is prevalent but bullshit, imho. In my job I've seen two different project teams get into trouble because Team A was doing their job and Team B was doing their job but neither bothered to work together and realize they were doing their job on the same piece of code. More communication is better, mutual respect of the on court and off court leaders is best.

To build on this, Dame is in the trenches with these guys. Everything I've heard leads me to believe that we have excellent chemistry, and that chemistry is a large part of why we're winning games. A trade could decimate that.

Sure. I'm not telling dame to shut his mouth. But if dame wants to keep Chris kaman or Timmy Frazier just because, he needs to take a back seat and trust in his gm.

I've seen organizations where they don't trust management and second guess everything and it's a cluster fuck of resentment.

Olshey has done very well, and the players should have faith in him to do what's best for the team. They can voice their opinions, but Neil should ultimately do what's best for the team in providing them with the best talent to succeed.

Decimate what? That's silly imo. Decimate a team that is .500? We are outperforming expectations sure. And I don't think we should trade Cj, dame, etc.

But if a guy super talented became available and we could grab him that would help the team, and he seemed like a cool dude, we would be morons not to look at that.

Any reasonable person can look at the team and see that we aren't near championship material with the talent we have. The goal should be to acknowledge the chemistry, butimprove the talent on the roster too

Kevin Pelton picked us to possibly make the playoffs. He thought chances are we'd fall short; but we'd be much better than most think. I want to say Zach Lowe and a few others were intrigued by us but yeah we've certainly exceeded even the optimistic expectations.

The craziest preseason predictions to me were people betting tens of thousands of dollars on the Lakers to win the title because they had such big odds. There isn't any universe that the Lakers could've competed for a title this year.
