Huh?

http://www.nbcsports.com/northwest/...is-might-be-too-important-trail-blazers-trade

Dame needs to step back here with all this nonsense. An expendable player on a lucrative contract who will be a free agent this summer should be a prime trade chip. You can't claim loyalty towards these dudes then expect the team to make sure it's on the path to contention in meetings with the owner.

Also, imagine how Noah/Meyers/et al feel right now reading some of these comments. DWade won titles with Haslem-- not even close to the same combo.

and theres some people who would trade Nurk... yeah good luck with that, Dame and Nurk have great relationship, bromance!

Dame has talked about his love for Ed's game in the past too. He's said he hopes Ed becomes his James Jones for Lebron haha

Edit: Guess he also says that here: “Look man, for me, the same way D-Wade was in Miami all those years and Udonis Haslem was there because he brought something to the team nobody else had … that’s how I feel about Ed,’’ Lillard said. “I always want Ed to be on my team. That’s the best way I can put it. I always want him on my team.’’

These Haslem and James Jones comparisons are not ringing endorsements of Ed Davis

People yell that players are not loyal to each other.

Then they yell when they are too loyal to each other.

If a deal presents itself for an upgrade at the wing and we nee to throw in Ed to make it work, Dame's loyalty should NOT be a factor. I have so many doubts about Neil, but we (PA) have entrusted him to do this job.

Just noticing a trend, my friend.

I actually didn’t think we’d trade Davis, and that was before I knew anything about his intentions on staying beyond this year. I think there are other ways to get below the tax, and besides that there’s really no reason to trade him. No one is giving up a first for a rental role player. At least not in my opinion.

I appreciate the loyalty but it's not like the Ed is a major piece of a team anywhere near contending for a title. Ending contract that if you can move for a future piece, you do it. Griffin just got traded and he is a former all-star on a team with basically the same record as the Blazers. If he can be moved, Ed can be moved.

Ed Davis is our best bench player.

Easily.

And there's not another player on the team who can do what he does.

Vonleh can do what Ed does... and how do you expect us to get better without trading anything of value. You get upset about the idea of trading CJ... now Ed. You think we are gonna get quality players offering only Harkless and Meyers in trade? Or do you think the team is good enough to compete as is? Or do u just like being mediocre?

So what happens when his best friend CJ is on the trade block?

If anyone besides Dame is untouchable on a team perennially hovering around .500 you are setting yourself up for failure. Dame needs to let Neil do his job...

I disagree. You always need that low key scrapper like him. Harlem, Tristan Thompson at one time.
Almost all championship teams need that blue collar worker like him. Unfortunately we have a few more not quite as good as him. Keep Ed and get rid of the rest.

No argument there....but it's not really doing anything to make us a contender.

Yes Championship teams do. Portland is no where in the ballpark of that and he's an ending contract that likely doesn't return....so get something while you can.

If he wants to be here, let him be here.
But it should come dirt cheap.

Agreed that Dame needs to let NO do this job, but I also don't have any issue with him requesting that Ed stays.

Ed provides more to the team via energy & hustle than he would bring back in a trade. Everyone is so concerned about his pending FA, but as long as he's treated right - I have no doubt that he'll re-sign.

Dame likes Ed.
Any fan worth their salt likes Ed.
Olshey likes Ed.

And he’ll trade him in a heartbeat if he’s the missing component to a difference-making trade.

Olshey knows this.
Ed knows this.
Any fan worth their salt knows this.
Dame knows this.

But let’s have a five page thread about the obvious.

Sheesh.

Could been handled behind closed doors

Players complain to the owner about what's being done/not being done to take advantage of their prime years.

Then they complain when one of their friends isn't retained.

Dame can't have it both ways. Either he wants the team to do everything it can to better the team..... or they want us to keep his buddies on the roster. :dunno:

Jeezus, how many of you bitching about Dame actually read the fucking article???? I read it twice and not once does Dame say don't trade Ed Davis. Nor does he say Ed is too important to trade. Both the thread title and the article title (especially) are misleading:

Damian Lillard says Ed Davis might be too important for Trail Blazers to trade

No, actually he didn't say that. That's a writer, or more likely an editor putting words in his mouth to attract more clicks. He said a bunch of stuff about how Ed's impact extends to what he does off the court, no nowhere, not once did he ever say don't trade Ed, or Ed it too important to trade. In fact, he acknowledged that “He’s probably going to be a wanted man,’’ meaning there will be interest in him at the deadline, which may means he may be gone.

At least the thread title included a question mark.

He wasn't complaining, just praising a teammate. Some of you are so fucking quick to jump to conclusions and bash our players. Slow down, get past the article title and read what Dame actually said.
