Dame makes impassioned plea to keep (?) Ed Davis?

Jeezus, how many of you bitching about Dame actually read the fucking article???? I read it twice and not once does Dame say don't trade Ed Davis. Nor does he say Ed is too important to trade. Both the thread title and the article are misleading:

Damian Lillard says Ed Davis might be too important for Trail Blazers to trade

No, actually he didn't say that. That's a writer, or more likely an editor putting words in his mouth to attract more clicks. He said a bunch of stuff about how Ed's impact extends to what he does off the court, no nowhere, not once did he ever say don't trade Ed, or Ed it too important to trade. In fact, he acknowledged that “He’s probably going to be a wanted man,’’ meaning there will be interest in him at the deadline, which may means he may be gone.

At least the thread title included a question mark.

He wasn't complaining, just praising a teammate. Some of you are so fucking quick to jump to conclusions and bash our players. Slow down, get past the article title and read what Dame actually said.

Read the article? Fuck, I have been on reddit too long.

The twitter generation doesn't have the patience or attention span to get past the first 280 characters. They read the article title and get up in arms. Of course, I also blame the person (most likely an editor) that wrote the misleading title. When you say somebody "says something" you better have a direct fucking quote to back that up. There is no such direct quote.

The buzz phrase of the new century is "Out Of Context."

What do you make of this?

And in a statement that will likely reverberate all the way up to Neil Olshey’s office, Lillard on Monday gave an emphatic endorsement.

Citing the bond that existed in Miami between Dwyane Wade and Udonis Haslem, which kept them together for 13 seasons, Lillard said he wants to create the same legacy with Davis.

“Look man, for me, the same way D-Wade was in Miami all those years and Udonis Haslem was there because he brought something to the team nobody else had … that’s how I feel about Ed,’’ Lillard said. “I always want Ed to be on my team. That’s the best way I can put it. I always want him on my team.’’

He likes Ed Davis, but even the example he uses, Wade and Haslem eventually split up. Wade never told CHI or CLE, "you want me. you have to sign Udonis too".

Dame likes having Ed on the team, but nowhere does he ever say, don't trade him, or he's too important to trade. There's a BIG difference between saying you like to play with someone and demanding that they not be traded.

You can't claim loyalty towards these dudes then expect the team to make sure it's on the path to contention in meetings with the owner.
Yeah, can't have your cake and yada yada.
Leave the personnel decisions to the GM.

Vonleh can do what Ed does... and how do you expect us to get better without trading anything of value. You get upset about the idea of trading CJ... now Ed. You think we are gonna get quality players offering only Harkless and Meyers in trade? Or do you think the team is good enough to compete as is? Or do u just like being mediocre?

Silly. Vonleh is gonna get paid. Teams will offer him more than we're willing to pay. We won't match Vonleh. Mark my words.

And don't ask stupid ass questions like the last one.

e_blazer and Boob said what I was going to say. Dame didn't say he's going to throw a fit if Ed is traded. He talked about how great and valuable Ed is, and said he doubts we'd get an adequate return on trading Ed to make it worthwhile. Which to me actually implied that if trading Ed improves the team, so long Ed, but if it doesn't, then don't. Kind of common sense

He gets a lot more than "Wade money", Ed is likely to want a lot more than "Haslem money", and the fans/team/owner want a lot more "Wade-level Winning."

Dame needs to step back here with all this nonsense. An expendable player on a lucrative contract who will be a free agent this summer should be a prime trade chip.

Why is he expendable? He's our only inside threat. Without him, we lose many more games. That's why he's my favorite player on the team.

Also, imagine how Noah/Meyers/et al feel right now reading some of these comments.

Who?

When and if they someday become 5% as good as Davis...They still won't matter.

Is there any way we can trade him and then get him back in the off season?

Yes, but it works as often as those tax schemes to divorce your spouse on Dec. 31 and remarry her on Jan. 1. Once a bird is free, it wants to explore other birdies.

So divorce makes them lesbians? New to me.

So players want to win, but players don't want to trade their buddy away?

Clusterfuck

Is it about Ed being Dame's buddy, or is it about Dame perceiving that Ed provides value to the team that goes beyond the box score? I interpreted it as the second.
