sure

I'm saying the offense doesn't look that different to me. It's true that Dame's average seconds/touch and dribbles/touch have dropped; but not by a lot. His percentage of plays that are PnR ball handler has dropped from 46% to 42%. That might have a little impact

his slump might actually be due to an almost perfect storm of new factors: new coach; new offense; different basketball; new foul rules; much shorter off-season; more pressure on himself because of his off-season noise about the roster. All this may have torpedoed his efficiency
It’s why I picked more than one reason

I voted:

Injury
Olympics
New Rules
Other (the new ball)

I think it's a perfect storm of a lot of different reasons.

Yes, but there have never been six games to start the season like this from Lillard.

The funniest thing about most of the clowns calling out Dame Dolla right now are that they expect his loyalty. It's like Raaiii-aaain on your wedding day.

Bad habits die hard. CJ wants to do his own thing. Dame is trying to figure his shot out, but the opponent defense is faster on getting around screens than the Blazers are at setting them.

ROCO is a spot up three point shooter and hardly if ever attacks the rim. Nurkic is as soft as melted butter, Powell is getting better, but the offense is set to spread shots, which isn't necessarily a bad thing because it in theory gets everyone involved, but it takes Dame out if it.

The bench is propping the Blazers starters up and that's not something I'd ever thought I'd say.
It's not even bad habits. It's the entire team at every point in the game. Chauncey needs to implement some offensive action. I think he went back to what we were doing last year to try and get Dame going and it's not working.

I liked the Pizza Hut Final Four streetballs from the 90s, myself....until they developed bubbles and went lopsided.

interesting

so then, if I assume when you say "he's done that or worse 148 times", it's a rolling search...? what I mean is that several of those 148 times can occur in one stretch of bad shooting? Or, put another way, if Dame had a 15 game slump in the past, a couple of dozen of the 148 instances during that 15 game stretch would match this 7 game stretch...?

I ran Dame’s latest numbers without the rolling window. Whenever a bad stretch is found I start a new stretch.

Dame has done this or worse 3 other times only: 2013, 2014, 2015.

If you check Dame’s shooting by distance.
1. He’s worse from 0-3 feet probably due to the no calls that are dropping his free throw rate.
2. He’s fine from 4-15 feet.
3. He’s under 25% from 16+ feet.

I’m still betting it’s mostly variance and maybe some ball.

The last 6 games Dame is 39% from 3 with a TS% of 0.575. Still well down from last year, but it’s due to a much lower free throw rate, not poor shooting. Fingers crossed.

Besides his abdominal strain and Wilson, watching the games what I’m seeing is that due to lower free throw rates, defenses no longer fear the drive as much. Dame can no longer dribble around the 3PT line and get defenders to back off with feints to the hoop, then step back for an open 3.

Dame and the Blazers need to continue to adapt.

becoming a two way player is going to take some off your offense as it takes physical energy to defend.....I just think Dame's trying to become that two way player and not be an ISO shooter for the team to get more touches and he's been a bit banged up....he's also got 3 toddlers at home now and that will take some wind out of your sails when you need those power naps. I also really think it's the ball as well....for a guy who is a creature of habit....that's a difference maker as well.

I heard a commentary the other day that some players in the league have mentioned the shorter off season has had an impact to a degree.
