Well Dame obviously didn't appreciate however Joe handled the situation because his omission was much more glaring than Bert's.
Do you really think Joe went out of his way to ignore Dame at the PF? The guy who was at every single predraft workout?

The guy flew to Croatia for Nurk's wedding for chrissakes. This is the franchise player who he has lauded at every opportunity.

Something doesn't add up.

I think Bert got in his feelings and forced Joe's hand.

No matter how you feel about whether we should’ve gotten rid of dame or not….this is a VERY bad look for the organization
It's a business and if the right move when looked at pragmatically was a youth rebuild the only thing they should have done was tell Dame and not pretend they were trying to thread some needle. Obviously if the Haynes shit is true then Cronin or ownership or whoever wanted Dame to ask out and were happy when he did. Not the way to do this on the up and up but this is high stakes business and people don't always take the high road.

You're just saying the Haynes shit right? Because the IG and X message was beautiful. If it is the truth I don't know why Dame wouldn't say it. We aren't children, they aren't our parents, it doesn't hurt us if we like the GM of our team or not. I don't think it's weak at all. I think Joe's good guy at all times routine might be how he handles everything and is probably genuine almost all of the time but doing that in the face of what was going on either rubbed Dame the wrong way or it was at times an outright obfuscation of who Joe really was being.

I was quoting someone who said divorce. I was continuing that analogy, and make no mistake, this is a nasty divorce and both sides are fighting to not be the bad guy.

But Haynes directly quoted Dame multiple times in this article. This article was written with Dame's blessing.

Dame/Haynes/Goodwin just pulled the pin on a hand grenade and tossed it into the PF as they walked out of town. It's classless. Joe sent him to an amazing situation. He should have kept this shit to himself. He requested the trade, he demanded to be sent to Miami and his agent was working against the Blazers to try to prevent other teams from tossing their hats into the ring. This is just weak.

If you and your wife split up and ultimately you decided that you didn't want to reconcile, but she tried to come back, would it be okay if she turned around and trashed you to your kids?

Need an overhaul. It's really interesting to read the league had to intervene between Dame and the GM.
I do think this could really motivate the league to put pressure on Jody to sell the Phil Knight. That's the only substantial outcome I could see coming from this and I think it's a slim chance that it happens.

He pulls off something good with Jrue and we'll have the most promising young roster since we draft GO and Nico to go with BRoy and LA. He was a pragmatist. I don't love it but sometimes we need someone cut throat to get this team to the best place.

I do think Joe lacks imagination when it comes to solving problems that only have one desired outcome and that could hurt us down the road. I also think he is very prudent and that his aw shucks demeanor is a bit disingenuous but it's a fuckton better than listening to that condescending prick Olshey. Until Joe isn't our GM, I'm hoping he does the best anyone can do. That being said, I knew that he cost us Dame spending his whole career here and I won't forgive him for that,
Guys IMO this edict about coming back was not from Cronin, yes he "communicated it" but kolde/ownership laid this down and I'd bet on it

If you pick up on some of the things that have been said, it's clear that neither side trusted each other at all, and both sides seemed to think the other was actively working against them. So I can see why the league stepped in.

OK when you continue down the road of the metaphor until it's becoming literal once again I have to question if you get it. This isn't a family it's a place of work. It was Dame's information to choose to share or not. These aren't Dame and Joe's or Vulcan's kids they are employees and consumers/fans. This is business so you should probably stop muddying that with the family analogy and continuing to bring kids from a broken home into this. This will not have lasting emotional trauma on anyone... not anywhere close to the level of your analogy and therefore if Dame is being a little irresponsible it's negligible and doesn't really matter whereas when a parent trashes the other parent in a divorce that damage is very very real.

Bruh..... simmer down.

Come on man…. He was quick to release the trade request and demand to go to Miami, but deciding to stay and rescind his trade request is a big secret until AFTER he’s traded to the Bucks?
this is a good point. but he was apparently still thinking he might end up in Miami. This was in the paragraph following the one that said he was told he could not come back.

"Lillard was still hopeful a deal with the Heat was within reach."

I remember someone on Miami's side around Sept 23 saying the Blazers field a grievance with the league. Wonder if this is what it was.

National media is picking up on this. They seem stuck on the tanking paragraph. Could this result in repercussions after they penalized Dallas for the same thing? I mean, it's obvious, but never so openly admitted.

ooh great point. date coincides with the intervention

Fair enough, it definitely was a separation filled with acrimony. I'm interested to see how Joe responds, most likely he'll just choose not to or say something about how he could see how Dame would feel that way. High Road Joe. With that said what's done is done and I don't really give a fuck as long as Joe keeps doing as good of a job with the rebuild as he seems to be doing.

I will say that I agree with people that say Joe might have just been doing dirty work for the Vulcans, that would explain (if it's even true) why Joe would be avoiding Dame. Maybe Joe fucking hated doing what he had to do.

So, if i am reading this correctly
dame, get me help or I walk
Joe, start with signing the guy you wanted to a lucrative extension
Dame, before anything else can be done, trade me, only to Miami
Joe, will try to get dame to a contender, butave to meet standard for team
Dame, anywhere other than Miami, I will not report
League, you can't say that
... summer break
Dame, if traded elsewhere, will still ask for a trade to Miami
Dame, ok, if not Miami, take me back
Joe, sorry, can't trust you that you will not ditch us again
Joe, trades to create the likely best team in the east
Dame, thanks everone except Joe.

Yes, not feeling that one from the Miami heat legend. Once again going against his public persona

Maybe I will boo.

Not sure I get the angst.

(Dame)
'Trade me but only to one team. You aren't going to trade me for nothing? Okay, I want to come back.'

(Joe)
'No, but I will trade you to a team that will now be the best odds on favorite to win a title.'

(Dame)
.... hit piece coming.

I just don't see where Joe did him wrong. 137-173 in the last 4 seasons. It wasn't working.

This is obviously a very one sided story. It does not shock me that our leadership wanted to start a rebuild. Nearly every action they did since Joe took over has indicated this (except for the Grant signing).

If Dame really didn't realize this happening in front of him, I'm not sure what to say. I thought Dame also was onboard the rebuild, but he clearly wasn't. Why that changed, and where/when the lines got crossed is unclear.

if joe is bluffing here, i don't ever want to play poker with him. this seems so genuine. WTF

So, it's ok for dame to change his mind about staying in Portland and later about a trade, but after dame tries to stab Joe in the back Joe can't change his mind?

Jee zuz.
i was only posting the video.

Cronin is the king of saying a bunch of words but saying nothing at all. This piece needed to be published before Monday so folks can ask him harder questions on Monday.

I'm just curious how he's going to dodge.
