Zombie Damian Lillard to request trade in coming days (nope, he's not.)

All the guy had to say is that what he reported was based on information from credible sources, but obviously he defers to what Dame is telling him directly. Instead he’s falling on his sword. Man, get a grip.

No he should have what Dame refers to as "say less". I hope he just stops digging. I love that Dame stood up for himself and burnt this dude but it's still so sad to see someone destroy their career in a needless way.

He should have said less. Instead he dug his own grave and now he is burrying himself in it.

Get this irony ... guy reporting on Dame has direct access to Dame for at least a half-hour and can use that time for an exclusive interview to clear things up and cement his rep. Instead uses the opportunity to argue with interview subject and tries to defend himself the entire time to the very guy he's been reporting about through indirect sources.

That's a very thin-skinned person and that doesn't make for a good journalist. He's making himself the bigger story.

Like I said when this all began, Abbott's rep was made as a marketer who became the launching point for some really good journalists. His own rep as a journalist wasn't nearly as solid. And guess what, he's looked like a marketer through all of this.

Wow, Abbott is clueless! Whether his “source” was true, exaggerated or a flat out lie, he has tarnished his reputation on center stage.

Yea, good luck publicly calling one of the most respected players in the league a liar. He’s the one that needs to be careful.

Love it. Burning this rumor to the ground. Now the Blazers can get to business

Respond Abbott...dig your hole deeper

The whole thing about Abbott's tweet here is he's insinuating the fact that he declares himself a journalist makes him beyond reproach. Of course, there are a lot of bad journalists and there are a lot of unscrupulous journalists, but this guy is like the character in the Hobbit movies putting on women's clothing and trying to hide in the crowd with all the "good ones."

If you want to be seen as a competent, honest journalist, perform competent, honest journalism instead of trying to tell people not to challenge you because you're a journalist.

This is where I'm less willing to feel bad for him punching himself in the face over and over like this. I'm a journalist some of the time. People like Henry Abbott make my job harder. If he wants to wipe himself off the mat, fine with me. His choice.

if it's impossible to have a circular firing squad of one, Abott has done the impossible

I think this might resolve that impossibility:

He should have taken the hint when Dame disputed him specifically but did the guy the favor of labeling it media in general. I'm sure Abbott is talking to someone who knows Dame and is giving him bad info but when Dame said it was bad info, Abbott should have just backed off. Also I don't know why after the big presser there needed to be more reporting on this. Dame said the team is on the clock, what more needs to be reported?
All this Abbott guy had to say was "I didn't make this story up. I got it from a reliable source that I trust. If my source was wrong about this, I apologize."

Put on your big boy pants Abbott and get a clue.

This is a good post!

Starts at the 2 min mark. Dame direct messaged Abbott and his agent called Henry and they talked in person. He says he doesn't want to share what happened in the call because it was private.

Dame: I'm talking to Neil all the time and I never said I'm going to stay home.

Henry reinforces in a circuitous way without explicitly saying it:

this is a leverage play.
