Where have I implied the sky is falling? I think Dame will be on the roster this season, I don't think he'll demand a trade in the coming weeks. I don't think he wants to demand a trade, ever.

What I am suggesting is there is little to no evidence that this roster will be significantly better come Sept 28th. If you can point to a reason to how/why you think it will be better, I'd love to hear it!

In regards to CJ, what I find odd is anyone who had the stance that he was basically an all-star level player, but now want to claim how hard it is to make a trade where we get someone good back in return. It's not hard to trade away an all-star level player in his prime for someone good; teams would line up for that. The reality is that maybe he was never an all-star level player (as his all-star appearance would suggest) and we've been overachieving more often than not.

I think we’re pretty much in agreement. Results are all that matter. I just think some things like this kind of trade take time. Basketball forums are not known to be gathering places for fans with a ton of patience, but reality says it’s likely to take some time to find the right deal.

I agree with you, again.

I just hope we have the time and the right person in charge to make the right deal. Both those things are far from certain.

True. I guess we’re going to have to keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best. If it doesn’t work out, there’s already a thread about holding Jody and Neil accountable. Tar and feathers sound about right?

I believe Dame (and many others) have been waiting 7 years for Olshey to find the legit #2 all-star after allowing LMA to walk for nothing.

If Olshey had a track record of making significant moves (no, I'm not counting lucking into Nurk as significant), then I think the logic that something significant is coming would be more than valid.

Personally, I don't even feel worried or impatient, as I know I have zero control in the outcome. I'm simply stating that I'm projecting Olshey's future actions by his lack of significant action in the past. Same reason I project Dame to be a below average defender next year instead of telling people to have patience that come training camp, he'll turn into someone he's never been.

My fingers are certainly crossed. I'm not going to do anything to hold Jody/Neil accountable either, I don't have the pull or the energy to.

Me either. Frankly, I think it would take far more favorable luck than I’ve ever seen this franchise get in order for CJ and other assets to be turned into a player the caliber of say, AD or Harden, who are the No. 2 players on the top-rated contenders. Not holding my breath.

Yes... this!

I'm ok with people who want to continue to have patience, but I think we're past the point where we should be telling others they need to continue having patience with Olshey's inabilities to surround Dame with a legit #2.

Including Dame himself.
 
One reason I don't see Lillard demanding a trade this season is that his family is very very happy in Portland. I know he can move them but anywhere but he has a large family. He has 3 little kids, 2 are twins, and that would be a lot of work to move everyone during the season. And he's not the type to leave them here and play without them.

Be a lot of work for the rest of the family and whoever the hell they want to hire. Dame's not going to let a hurtle of some sort stand in the way of his goals. I hope that's not what Neil is banking on because I honestly don't think he has all season. If the team had until next season to make something happen I don't think Dame would have been talking about making up his mind. He would have said that there absolutely was no story and that he is committed to this team and this team only. Then he could address it next off season.

He made it pretty publicly known that the team is on the clock... maybe that clock doesn't go off until next season (that doesn't make much sense to me but maybe), maybe the clock has already gone off and he's made a trade demand to Neil that Neil is quietly making happen (also not likely). The most likely thing in my mind and what a lot of writers around the league think (for what that's worth) is that he wants to see how this team plays under Chauncey. If we're only beating the bad teams and losing a lot to teams with winning records like last season and the season before, then I think he'll ask out at the end of the year. If we're kicking ass, I'm sure Dame will be really happy and we won't have to worry about him being traded.
 
First move Blazers could have made 5y ago was letting Stotts go. Lillard was agaist it. Now Blazers can improve by trading CJ and if Lillard is against it, I don't know what other trade can be done.

Oh, damn, I missed that quote where he demanded that CJ stay. If you could just get me a link for that and hell a link where he demanded that Stotts stayed on as well. The Stotts thing is just some sort of bullshit that was made into an accepted reality a long time ago but him being against moving CJ right now... you really need to show me how you came up with that one.

I mean, Blevins was probably rare find by Olshey and nothing at all suddenly got nothing to do with Lillard. Not Stotts (don't have time now, but I'll try to find him defending Stotts after NO series), not CJ, Melo, Blevins or nothing else happening in the roster.

To be precise, I still think that Lillard is best player that happened to land in Blazers. Unfortunately, he is a young man as well, not God.

Come on man. Keeping CJ/Melo is completely different than using an end of the roster spot on Blevins.
 
I'm glad the Blazers aren't making a move just to make a move, or trading away tons of future draft picks for a player that won't make the team a contender. Dame would possibly still ask out in the next year then the team would really be screwed both short and long term.

Resigning Powell was the most important task of the offseason as failing to do so wouldn't bring in any talent. The team accomplished that.

I was hoping we'd get a CJ for Simmons or for Middleton, etc type of trade. But failing to trade CJ still has CJ on the squad. Failing to sign Powell would've left an empty void.

With Roco and Nurk on expiring contracts the team only has the first few months of the season to see if it's a long term group. If they are playing well and the new coach made a huge difference, and Dame buys in then perhaps all will be good. We probably still need someone like NAS or Anf to really pop to be a fringe contender, but thats fine. If the team doesn't look good then there needs to be major trades, whether thats any or all of the starters that bring back the most in trade.

Not really. While the media stuff surely has not helped. The interviews with Dame have left a lot of questions on the table. Certainly doesn't sound like someone committed longterm.

The fact that our offseason has been underwhelming (another thing Dame pretty much came out and said regardinf our signings) hasn't helped.

Yes, there is more more time to make a trade. Many of us just have minimal confidence in Olshey to pull it off.

I understand your argument dviss, I just don't agree with it because so far, this off-season looks a lot like past Olshey off-seasons, and Olshey already telegraphed his desire to run it back in the Stotts presser

will he be looking for trades between now and the deadline? sure, there's always a bargain bin to shuffle thru. But there is no reason to expect him to do anything like trading CJ for a better fit. Jones, sure, CJ, no. And exchanging Jones for another player of his caliber is unlikely to do anything close to moving the needle
