Dan Gilbert rips Lebrons Asshole

Btw, I wonder what it's like to have an owner that will send out a public statement to the fans.

Hmmm

Fan communication is nice, but not always the hallmark of a good executive... John Nash e-mailed us a lot, remember. It was *so cool* that he e-mailed us... was he a good GM though?

I just read the whole letter Dan Gilbert wrote and I don't have any problem with it all. I think it was right on.

Do you think you'll be able to repair some of those relationships over time?

Well, you know, for me as long as I've got a great relationship with the man above that gave me a lot of guidance in this, my friends and family that I know no matter what decision I made, no matter if I'm LeBron James, the guy that dunks basketballs that everybody see on TV or the father in guidance at home with his kids, I'm happy with that.

Screwing the Cavs on national TV? LBJ must think "the man above" is one of his posse.

This is like when a foreign leader makes a speech inside his country against the US, and the State Dept. says they aren't worried--the man is speaking to his constituents, playing politics within his country. But he's really playing ball with the CIA.

Gilbert was humiliated and worried that he will be burned at the stake in Cleveland. He released this letter purely to save face. Trouble is, he must now show effort in at least trying to follow up on his promise to win a championship before LeBron does. He should have left that part out.

The letter was really aimed only at Cavs fans as a morale booster on the Cavs site. I don't think it was meant for our eyes, but it couldn't have escaped the attention of outsiders.

lol someone pissed in his wheaties..if he re-signed he would write a letter kissing lebrons ass

lol this is true. However Gilbert speaks for how I feel towards Lebron so I'm ok with it :p

Oh, I'm not defending LeBron. But there are higher standards for owners than for players, and the fact that he'd put this message out suggests that maybe his judgment is impaired in other issues as well.
Say what you might about Paul, I don't think he'd ever attack a player, no matter what the provocation. Nor would most other owners in the league.

barfo

Yeah, here in Portland, we stick to our threatening letters. ;)

I agree that the tv show was stupid. I feel bad for Cavs fans. I really do. Their owner is a fucking moron, this stuff wasn't a surprise. He couldn't come up with something a tad more gracious? Rich people can be stupid too.

It is a basketball game for crying out loud. It is also a job for Lebron, he wants what he thinks is a better one. More power to him. Has anyone mentioned the thought of death threats Lebron is likely to get? I would be afraid for my life if I were him. If a rich guy can get that worked up, just imagine an unstable 37 year old virgin who just watched this show from his mom's basement in Cleveland.

The way that Dan Gilbert promised Cleveland would win before LeBron did smacked of a death threat of it's own.

Wasn't Gilbert the other owner that came out and said he was PO'd by it. Maybe he should have wrote a threatening letter last year too. To LeBron

. Kobe and Jordan and Karl Malone had exactly the same sized mega asshole egos that LeBron has. Did those guys whore themselves out to the highest bidder too? .

Yes. Karl Malone went to the Lakers to play with Shaq, Kobe, and Gary Payton. And they lost Rasheed Wallace. That was a great Finals.

I love this letter. Just as I loved James doing a 1 hour TV special to crush the dreams of a city.

It's all great entertainment (conceptually, I mean...I didn't watch the show, sounded really boring).

It seemed like any other reality TV show I have watched. Especially the letter.

Didn't Gilbert bring in some Chinese investors a year or two ago? I'm sure that letter was more about pacifying them then it was to express his outrage.

Gilbert: "Hello? Yes... yes... don't worry, he's going to sign here. He loves it here! No worries. Huh? Yes, I know you wouldn't have invested if.... What? Executives do what in China when they fail? Trust me, it won't come to that, he'll sign... he'll sign..."

He was always going to give an interview, he's only getting criticized for not calling the organization on Wednesday.

I just don't care enough about this to be offended, but the Karma thing strikes me as pretentious on Dan's part. Like not calling you a day before means James should suffer eternally, only good guys win titles, and no one should leave Cleveland. That's quite an exaggeration.

I just realized that the Cavs are my second favorite team in the NBA. If they can pick up Luis Scola and a couple other pieces that fit, they could still make the playoffs. A Heat/Cavs first round series would be Epic.

I'll probably root for Miami, when they're not playing Portland. They should be a blast to watch.

Gilbert comes off like the guy that has been kissing the ass of the "entirely too hot to date him" **** and he finally got dumped. I would respect him if he would have had the balls to do something like this while Lebron was still a Cav. Toronto deserves the same for pampering Bosh.

What? 30 minutes of Jim Gray and 30 minutes of Stuart Scott didn't make you want to tune in?

Dear Lord. I don't mind the concept of the 60 minute show, but it was like those two guys were trying to do extended interview masturbations and seeing how long they could get away with it before they were caught.

Ed O.

Haha, nice. Repped for the bolded part. Classic.

I think I love Dan Gilbert. That was something I would have expected from Mark Cuban.

agree. it may have been over the top, but I think any fan can understand where he is coming from. the entire event was handled so poorly that lebron will never recover from it. I am so happy now the entire world sees him for what he is, the biggest douche bag to ever play in the nba.

I agree with most of what Dan Gilbert said. Lebron is an asshole. I don't mind him going to Miami but to make his 1 hour self-promotional bull shit is way to much. I hope the Cavs do win a championship before Lebron. Actually I hope Lebron never wins a championship but he might now with Wabe because he is actually pretty clutch. The one thing is I will have a new team to root against. It is hard to say this but I would even root for the Lakers against the Heat.

I just wouldn't watch one second of the finals that year.

Much like this one, actually.

But what I meant is, an owner who would write that might very well be an owner that one would want to get away from. It's hard to imagine Paul Allen writing something like that no matter how much a player had disappointed him. It's very, very, very unprofessional.
I'd say James is the one being "unprofessional." Gilbert gave him everything he wanted--including building a $25 million practice facility 20 minutes closer to his house and providing a masseuse for him on all the team flights. Then James has a "friend" call Gilbert 2 minutes before he makes his big announcement on TV. Are you kidding me??? After everything that Gilbert did for him, James didn't even have the decency to tell him the news in person.

Unbelievable. LeBron James has set the bar pretty high when it comes to lowclass behavior.

Another billionaire acting like an infant. Is Gilbert related to Paul Allen? Perhaps Larry Miller wrote the letter for Gilbert?
