After Thursday's practice, Mike D'Antoni answered questions concerning the back pain Danilo Gallinari continues to experience.

"Just seeing the doctor and trying to make sure that structurally he's fine and rest and exercise and try to get him over this," D'Antoni said. "Little bit in unchartered territory. We don't know exactly everything, but with the great medical advice and time he should be fine."

When asked if he's concerned, D'Antoni said, "It's been about 4-5 months, so sure you're concerned about it, but at the same time, structurally he's 20 years old and structurally he's fine, so you have to think that he’ll be OK. It’s just a matter of time and finding the right exercise and whatever, something that he'll get over."

D'Antoni said he has not learned anything new since Wednesday.

Concerning Danilo Gallinari's continuing back problems, a source told Newsday, "The specialist said the right thing is recommending rest, not surgery."

Medical opinions have been consistent: An MRI confirmed that Gallinari suffers from a bulging disk that is pressing against the nerves but his back is structurally sound.

The specialist believes the Knicks rushed Gallinari back too soon.

Rest is the prescription for Gallinari, for a period likely to exceed a month.
