It's no secret Chris Duhon isn't Mike D'Antoni's preferred choice at point, as the Knicks looked long and hard this offseason for a replacement. But no moves were made, and Duhon retained his starter's role.

But after getting burned by Charlie Bell too many times because of poor defense, D'Antoni yanked Duhon for the final 22 minutes of Saturday night's loss, reports the New York Daily News.

Yet, D'Antoni is in a tough spot. Nate Robinson is injured, and won't be available to play this evening. Other than that, the Knicks don't really have any ballhandlers. Unless they swing a trade, Duhon will likely still see big chunks of minutes because D'Antoni has nowhere else to turn right now.

Did they really look long and hard?

Sessions and J. Jack both got semi-reasonable contracts and should have been easy to persuade to accept more playing time in NY. Who did they seriously pursue outside of rumors of interest??

The Knicks didn't want to make any commitments past a year to free agents in order to have salary cap flexibility for the LeBron James sweepstakes.

I'm sure they would have happily given a number of guys a one year contract, but that's a whole other story. The Knicks seem much too worried about keeping their commitments low to upgrade the roster while adding salary.
 
They looked long and hard for what they could, but in a market like this, guys want long-term security, and a one year contract doesn't give that. Hence why no one came this offseason.
 
D'Antoni's system needs a more rounded PG than Duhon. Duhon is a streaky shooter, and more of the time he's ice cold than red hot. He really does know how to run a team as a pass first PG, but that's not at all what a Steve Nash type PG needs to do to make the offense run the way D'Antoni designed it.

The beef about Duhon's lack of defense is absurd. Skiles loved the guy for his defense and even had him guard Kobe.

What he did in Chicago is irrelevant. This season Duhon has been terrible on both sides of the floor. Guards literally penetrate at will to the basket when Duhon is covering them. He's shooting 26% and 24% from the field and downtown respectively.

Everyone on D'Antoni's teams are known for weak defense. That would be a product of the system. In Skiles' system, he was a stud on D.
 
duhon sucks, it's as simple as that. the knicks need nate robinson back fast.

if they start nate, hughes, gallinari, harrington, and lee, i could see them picking things up a little bit. then mainly play douglas, chandler, and hill off the bench with duhon only picking up some backup pg minutes.

Last year they played Rose against PGs defensively, for obvious reasons. Gordon was guarding big SGs or SFs.

the stats i posted show ben gordon being almost as good defensively against shooting guards as duhon was against pgs that season.

82games.com doesn't say who he guarded or not. They are analyzing the game play by plays (a text file) and assuming teams play 2 guards, 2 forwards, and a center. There's nothing in the play by play that indicates who guarded who.

then the stats you posted say nothing about duhon's defense and are meaningless.
 
Farmar and AMMO for Duhon! It seriously makes sense for both teams....all the contracts are expiring and they can sign Farmar for less than Duhon in the offseason to save more money for big name talent

In a vacuum, yes.

When you see 3 guards who played 100% of the guard minutes and all had low PER against at the G positions, you can see they all were good.

or that the bulls had a defensive system based on shutting down guard play. both are possibilities.

That they did, but the guards had to execute.

And like I said, Duhon was Skiles' choice to guard Kobe a lot of the time. As well, no matter how much we bulls fans didn't want to see him in the starting lineup, he was in it an awful lot.
