Check out how much weight he's gained since injury, can't be any good for those rickety knees of his.

But he's so young though isnt he? I just don't understand this from his point of view

Whoa....

That Darius Miles pic is just freaky. The guy must have been stacking up on donuts and ice cream. Look at these pics I Googled of Miles before the injury:

He's not retiring from age, he's retiring because of his knees. He had a serious injury that left him sidelined for the entire season. His knees are probably dead, and considering the guy's game was heavily relied on his athletisism, he probably won't do jack if he returns. He's lost his hops, his speed, everything his game relies on. He doesn't have a jump shot, doesn't have range, he's done.

This is kind of sad actually. I remember I used to like Darius Miles when he was with the Clippers and Cavaliers. I haven't watched him since he got traded to the Blazers, but he's a sad story. Another one of those players with tons of potential, talent, and hype when drafted, but underachieved throughout his career because of various reasons. I used have a Darius Miles poster that I used to hang on my wall (Clippers), but it ripped when we were moving so I threw it out.

I miss that Clipper squad. That was back when I used to actually care about the Clippers. The squad had so much promise too, but some dumbass had to tear them apart

reminds me of Johnathon Bender damn, at least they made some paper b4 they left

It is sad to hear that a young player with so much potential has to retire from his injuries.

hahaha yeah man. He was in Van Wilder and that one SAT movie. He was supposed to be our today Lebron. I still dont think he should retire yet. Or at least retire...go to physical rehab, lose some weight, comeback and get a bench spot.

Everyoen thought Grant Hill was finished, yet he made the allstar game a few years ago and now is on a playoff contending team in the Suns.

Very sad but he won't retire. Or at least he will and then resign when he feels the times right.

Damn! Odom, Miles, Qrich, Olowakandi, maggette all in one team...

They also had a year with Andre Miller on the team alongside all those other players.

It's amazing to see how much weight he's gained since the injuries ravaged him. I honestly doubt that he has much left in the tank. He relied a ton on his athletic ability, due to the fact that he lacked all the fundamentals, and if he doesn't have that crazy athleticism anymore, I don't see how he can be effective.

Am I the only one who doesn't think that picture says a lot? I'm sure he's gained weight, but from that picture, it just looks like he got a little chubbier in the face and grew a beard (although it's so dark, it's hard to tell).

Until I see a better picture, I'm holding back my judgement.

BTW - Do he and Q-Rich still do the headpound? I remember one time Jon Barry did that running by the Clippers' bench, back in the day. That guy's got a great sense of humor.

Dang it's sad to see him thinking aout retiring. Miles is one of my favorite players but you gotta do what you gotta do

I don't think he's thinking of retiring, the Blazers just want him to. If he does, they still have to pay him that cash, but it won't count against the cap. That's the whole issue here for them is freeing up cap space.

well they traded miles for Miller. didn;t they have Brand though.

Anyways i thought he would be one of the all time great defenders he had the body for it but i guess he didn't have the determination.

anyways this inpried me to play 2k7 and make a fantasy draft with him as my 2nd best player and best perimiter player. i couldnt hit a jumper with him. i averged 9 points in 3 minute quarters with him and the 9 were from the line and fast breaks. i thought it was funny how it came up in this thread that he couldnt shoot.

But Grant Hill has a high IQ he knows how to play the game at almost every position. Darius Miles never seemed to have that high of a basketball IQ, or any high IQ of that matter.

Maybe I am a bad person when I say this, but I want him to retire. Not only would that clear up cap space, but the dude has a terrible attitude and I don't want his attitude getting to Roy, Aldridge, or Oden. As far as I am concered he will still be getting paid. It is sad that injuries took over him no doubt about it. Anyway if he doesn't want to retire, I really, really hope Portland buys him out some how some way.

Its funny my cousin told me he saw Miles at Dolphins with a wad of cash slapping strippers asses... For any of you that live in Portland you know what club that is.. pretty funny guy is partying and eating instead of trying to get in shape or heal...

Looks like he's about to rip ass on those little kids in that pic, Shape.

Anyway, strange he wants to retire. I think his weight issues have just become so severe, plus the injuries, that he feels as though he has no other choice. If you look at his career statistics, he did have increases in most catagories, but he wasn't worth the trouble. This is all for the best for the Blazers, but likely not the best for Miles. I wonder what he'll do if he retires?

is that shawn kemp?

It's not the fact that he wants to retire, it's the fact that Portland wants him too. The guy needs to get in the gym and lose that weight and get back to being at least fit. The guy was supposed to be a great player.

BTW, yeah I saw that stupid SAT movie and it sucked ass.

Wouldn't make a difference, Portland won't play him. After his contract is up with Portland then he will most likely be done in the NBA because no one wants him (maybe the Knicks), but they are about it.

I am still hoping for some sort of buy out on Miles.
