@ThomasCDee: #knicks were in play for Lee via a three-way trade with Portland, per source, but Phil Jackson "didn't want any former Isiah players." #NBA

Interesting.

Interesting.

Now I'm curious what we would've gotten. Damn.

What did GS give up to get them to take that contract?

POR/NYK/GS

The contracts are large.

We would've for sure sent out Kaman.

Calderon likely would've been sent here.

Maybe Neil was trying to poach Barnes?

Neil isn't going to absorb any large expiring deals like this because he's going after a RFA or two, that's the only way it makes sense to not do this.

They will most likely use the stretch provision.

I don't think they will. They can open up max cap space next off-season if they just let Wallace expire, so I doubt they're going to want to push any of his money into next year. They'll pay the luxury tax for one season, but even a $5 million reduction in salary amounts to a fair amount of savings when the luxury tax is factored in.

Possible, but I'm curious how much difference the Wallace to Lee contract effects if they reach lux tax?

From what I've read, this would save the Warriors around $13-15 million in taxes, on top of the $5.5 million in salary. So it could be up to a $20.5 million savings.

Then we should all agree this was a damn good move!

I like it for the Warriors. Obviously, the dream for them would have been either no player coming back, or a player that would be useful for them, but that's probably unrealistic (especially if they didn't want to add salary for next year). Maybe the Warriors can drag something out of Wallace's basketball corpse. Speights and Barbosa looked better for them than I expected.

Look for Golden State to use the stretch provision to buy Wallace out of his deal.

That makes sense.

BTW, holy shit. Crash just... crashed to earth after he left POR, didn't he?

Buchanan's best move as GM for sure.

That's not coming from the Warriors, though. I recall reading earlier in the offseason that the Warriors weren't interested in taking on salary in future years and might even just keep Lee or buy him out this offseason if they had to.

Maybe they'll change their mind, but I can see why they'd rather just bite the bullet this year (since it's not like it's costing them a player like Green) and then have their entire core plus max space next offseason.

Lee's a decent player. But we don't need Golden States Castors ar this point.

David Lee, Amir Johnson, Jared Sullinger and Kelly Olynyk are all PFs. I know one can probably play Center in a pinch but dang!

It is interesting. I wonder what we'd have gotten. Another mention of PDX trying to do something that we only hear about after a deal is completed (without our involvement, in this case).

Maybe we were going to structure Rolo and/or Afflalo as sign and trades.
