Not sure who else has picked up this album yet, but I was wondering what everyone was thinking about it. I think it's by far their best album since ...And Justice For All, and it's definitely a statement album by them in my opinion. They are definitely back and better than they have been in a very long time with this album. So far, I've got to listen to it twice today (on my 3rd go round right now), and yes, I'm loving it. So far, the standout track for me is The Judas Kiss, though I can't say that I've found a bad song on it at the moment.

So yea, after listening to this basically non-stop all day, I can now for sure say that this album is up there with their 80's stuff and definitely better than anything they released in the 90's and definitely better than the garbage known as St. Anger. So far, The Judas Kiss, All Nightmare Long, Unforgiven III and This Was Just Your Life are my favorites, though, as I said in my other post, there isn't a bad song on this album. This could very well be the best album of the year at this point, at least in my opinion. And considering that a slew of my favorite bands have all released albums this year (Staind, 3 Doors Down, Slipknot, just to name a few), that says a lot, at least for me.

I'm not a big Metallica fan, but looking at the track listings, are the songs really all 5 minutes plus? If they are that's sweeet

Yup, the shortest song on the album is My Apocalypse, and that comes in at 5:01. Everything else is well over the 6:00 mark, with multiple coming it at well over 7:00 and the instrumental, Suicide and Redemption, clocking in at 9:57. It's ridiculous, has to be longest 10 track CD I've ever listened to, but oh my god do I love it.

I like the idea that they are trying to accomplish with this record in terms of sound but the production and Hetfield's (once again) awful lyrics and singing turns me off.

This could very well be the best album of the year at this point, at least in my opinion.
The snob in me would love to recommend you some much better "hard" music if you'd like.

You mean in terms of me singing or bands to recommend?

either ;) na bands, ill see if we have any similar

Cult of Luna - Eternal Kingdom
Colour Haze - All
Boris - Smile
Acid Mothers Temple & The Cosmic Inferno - Journey Into the Cosmic Inferno
Acid Mothers Temple & the Cosmic Inferno - Pink Lady Lemonade - You're From Outer Space
Cog - Sharing Space
Torche - Meanderthal
The Melvins - Nude With Boots
Man Man - Rabbit Habbits
Candlebox - Into The Sun
Anathema - Hindsight

musically, I like it. a lot of it sounds like old metallica.

But I agree, the lyrics are really bad.

Some of the songs did not need to be as long as they are, but overall I was impressed with the album for a band that's supposed to be washed up.

Man this album is brutal, definitely my third favorite from Metallica ( MOP and the SUPREME AJFA...) They just went for it all on this album. All Nightmare Long is a beast of a song.

Agreed....I'm not sure if I'd rank this third or fourth for me. Puppets and Justice are my top 2...not sure if this is better then Ride though.

All Nightmare Long is hands down the best song on this disc too. I can't wait to see them live in November, I'm hoping they play that tune, most definitely.

I don;t know if Lars can play some of that double live LOL

Im seeing them in late Jan. can;t wait!

Agreed, thats the one that stood out to me also..have been learning it on guitar :)

Oh how I'd love to be good enough to play that song. Unfortunately, I'm not. One of these days though, one of these days.

Become proficient in alternate picking. Do it with a metronome and start slow. Quality before speed. Practice triplets while palm muting. Make sure you are using your wrist and not your elbow to pick.

I think that's what really draws me to thrash metal, fast alternate picking on the E.

dang this sounds like I may have to get this album.. and by get I mean Acquire it :)

really love the old metallica.. hope this is up to par with that.

It definitely is. I'd probably rank it as their 3rd or 4th best disc behind Master of Puppets, ...And Justice For All, and maybe Ride The Lightning, though this and Ride could be interchangeable.

I'm lucky enough to have the original releases of those albums and has the songs that Dave Mustang (or whatever his name is) from Megadeath wrote and is no longer published on them.

I really love Ride the Lighting so it'll be hard to take that from the top of the Metallica heap. Master and And Justice are there too.

I actually like the Black Album a lot too.

Pretty good Album. But by Metallicas standards not all that great...

1. Master of Puppets
2. Ride the Lightning
3. And Justice for all
4. Black
5. S&M
6. Kell em' all
7. Garage Inc
8. Death Magnetic
9. Load
10. Re-Load

I'm not listing St. Anger because that really isn't metallica...

Dave Mustaine would be the name you're looking for. I'm not a huge fan of him personally, he's always seemed like an ass to me, and I'm glad he got booted out of Metallica.

I like some Megadeth, though I'll also admit to never liking Mustaine's voice.

Dave Mustaine didn't fit with metallica, but he's one of the most kick ass guitar players of all time.

Mustaine is a solid guitar player, this is true. Too bad he never learned how to sing.

True, but he also knew he sucked and was smart enough to make a gimmick vocals that worked :drumroll:

Touche.

It's a good thing too, because if he thought he was actually a good singer, he'd have been in a world of a hurt.

To Megadeths credit as well, at least their style of music does mostly fit Mustaine's vocal abilities, especially their earlier stuff.
