In yesterday's Daily Dime, ESPN's Chris Sheridan reports Del Harris, who came in as interim coach Kiki Vandeweghe's lead assistant once Lawrence Frank was fired, has decided to leave the team.
"In a printed statement he issued afterward, Harris said he believes interim coach Kiki Vandeweghe has made strides with the New Jersey Nets; there is 'strong evidence that the team has gotten over the hump and will be much more competitive the rest of the way,' Harris said," writes Sheridan.
"But anybody who has ever written or read a prepared statement knows that the real truth is usually untold or glossed over, and Harris was dumbfounded that the news of his departure had broken during the game."
Sheridan, as you can see, was rather dubious of this crafted statement.
Adrian Wojnarowksi of Yahoo! Sports dug deep into the matter, and says Harris become tired of the immaturity on the Nets' roster.
"Sources familiar with Harris' decision suggested issues far less tidy: The Nets' front office made it clear to Harris he wouldn?t make the short list of candidates to take over the head-coaching job this spring," he writes. "Once Harris was told that, he decided he was done dealing with the immature elements of the Nets' locker room."
As we told you this morning, there's a possibility Harris will be back working with the Frisco D-League franchise, or the Mavericks in some capacity.
