We just traded a 23 year old with one and a half bad seasons for an utterly average 29 year old with 4 more years on his deal after this one.... I'm gonna say this is a horrible trade.
I'm trying to rationalize this and I guess his cap hit isn't that bad, but this is another dman about to take the trip over the 30 year old line, with 4 more years on his deal. We all know Del Zottos ceiling is so much higher than this f'in avg dman with no offensive ability.
He actually looks like a decent player, good passer with two-way ability. For DZ it's not a bad move. I thought maybe they could've gotten a pick also but whatever. They needed a RH shot. Plus he's signed for a few years so it's added depth.
Totally agree Mig. Utterly average average seems a perfect description. Listed at 6'1", 199. Without knowing him, I don't get it. Usually a minus player (can't count this year because the entire team is), average size, usually around 25 PM so probably not a big hitter or nasty, doubt he's extremely fast. On the face of it, this sukkks.
I'm not going to sit here and say we should have traded him years ago or whenever, but scratching him so often this season absolutely contributed to this dreadful, dreadful return we just got. That was just dumb. All the league insiders were saying it, "His value is no longer what it was at the start of the season."
It's about fit at this point, DZ/AV weren't going to mesh, plus they needed some type of RH shot. If it somehow dosen't work they can use him in some other type of deal down the road.
