Okay, MY buddy has a man crush on Joe Thornton and believes that he is the IT factor for us wining a cup. I kind of agree in a sense bc Joe is a beast on faceoffs, to my knowledge...and he knows how to pass it. and my buddy is the one pressin stepan for thornton but i tell him hes crazy. dereks a solid #2 center

Now one guy I've always wanted was cam atkinson. last off season we missed out on vrbata as a right handed shot on the pp. that is a KEY piece that we are missing on the PP. a right handed shooter who can actually shoot!. Now I would imagine that columbus may be in a mix between buyer/seller mode because they have a good young team. Now I do see them wanting to clean up some cap room while getting better. Atkinson is going to be a free agent next season and if we can get him to agree on sign and trade of some sort...possibly this deal would work

I think this may entice them.

klein makes half of johnson while producing more, and klein REALLY fits in well with the rangers too but a chance to get atkinson, especially if he signs a 5 year deal at like 2.5-3 mil per. would be awesome. the jackets recieve 3 nhl ready players making the need to resign calvert on existant because fast or the duc would replace him and atkinson.

NOW im not crazy about getting rid of klein for johnson but it's either johnson or tyutin. i realize it would have to be one of the d men making 5 million a year for another 3 years but if they offered up weisnerwski i would take him in a heart.

lets see what you critics think. if not of the deal. of at least pursuing cam atkinson in the offseason, then going after vrbata the following off season to give us TWO big right handed shots


and dump, I want a solid reply not some "I've been sitting on my ass all day" response that doesn't keep this topic going.

Klein has been our best dman this season IMO. He is signed for a few years under 3 mill per, which is a steal. Why would you want to trade him? Makes zero sense.

Go add a top 9 forward at the trade DL, hopefully one we size, and that's it. We don't need a lot, we just need another top 9 forward because we are clearly lacking forward depth (3rd and 4th lines are a crapshoot).

You are trying too hard bro, and seem to ignore the fact (or maybe you don't know) that the NHL has a salary cap...a hard cap.

Add a top 9 forward and call it a day. Stop trying so hard. Deal one of our two 2nd round picks, deal Moore, deal a prospect, throw in a Stemp for the cap if needed. But don't go crazy here and deal our best dman this season...no need to break up that core on D. That excellent core 4.

Klein is playing well past his true skill level and the point of the trade is to get someone like atkinson over here.johnson is a much better d man then klein. and yes i do know that there is a cap. but you and dump seem fixated on going into next season with the same team that we have, this season. so much that your actually talking about giving someone like jt miller a raise, and MAKING it a point! the kid doesnt even play every night! if we get bounced in round 2. your going to give all our RFA and UFA a raise and roll the dice that the same exact team can get the job done the following season? or do you make a big play to get someone like atkinson here who is light years better then miller and hagelin and fast and hayes and all these other young always do for a raise players that you and dump seem to be salivating over.

we have NO LEGITIMATE RIGHT HANDED SHOOTERS. stepan has the most pathetic one timer i have ever seen for someone who gets fed the puck on a constant basis the way he does on the power play. in fact other teams knows he cant shoot worth a shit because the islanders were giving him the WHOLE lane every power play and he was basically playing shoot and catch with halak.

Nova, what the hell is wrong with you? Jack Johnson is a heaping pile of crap on defense. He might be the worse defensive defenseman in hockey. Atkinson is a shrimp having a bad year. You probably could get him for a 3rd rounder. You sound like you haven't watched a hockey game in your life.

CBJ can keep Johnson and his -25 rating. Hes not good in his own zone at all despite what he might bring on O. Not the kind of guy we need to bring in, in my opinion.

I wanted Thornton this summer but no way do I trade a 24 year old Stepan who's clicking at a point per game pace for him. Not in a million years. He's 35. And I saw you said in another thread you want to give MSL 5m. Thats tying a whole lot of money up in guys who are way up there in age. The time to get Thornton was this summer before we signed Brassard to that 5m contract, a deal I'm still not crazy about. Would rather have found a way to get a big, true C like Thornton for a million or so more.

The top 6 is set, at least for this year. Any move made will be in the bottom 6, hopefully for size and a C. A top 6 shakeup will most likely take place this summer if at all.

You do bring up a fair point about right handed shooters though. Right now MSL is the only true right handed winger we have. Zucc and Nash can play the right but shoot left. That's why Fast has been bumped up to top 9: hes one of the only right handed guys we have. That has to be addressed this offseason.
