Politics Democrats have owned this state for decades - what do we have to show for it?

All felons should get to vote. I believe they should get to vote while incarcerated. We definitely disagree there.

Not sure why y'all don't remember the republicans that used to run our state.

I remember way before you were even born.

This state was awesome in every way. stayed that way pretty much until mid-late 80's.

Rapid freefall in every livability factor since then. Dems privatized our State Parks system which was the best in the nation. They stole it's funding (the gas tax) and it went to shit. They've avoided actual road maintenance to the point most of our roads need replacement. They did zero bridge maintenance for over 2 decades, then merely talked about doing it for the last decade, we're still waiting. They gave out free needles and methadone, exploding the drug addiction population way beyond repair, killing hundreds of people they should have been treating rather than drugging. They created the homeless population, inviting trespassers, thieves and meth heads to camp in people's backyards with impunity.

And that's just the things they did on purpose.

The devastating effects of their mistakes would take weeks to relate here.

Yes, we know how you oppose people having to take personal responsibility for their actions, but demand others take personal responsibility for actions done by historical figures of the past.

There is absolutely nothing American, or moral, about those views.

The problem with our schools lies in how they are funded.

Whoever the fuck decided we should pay for schools with property taxes was a fucking idiot.

I was a Junior at Cleveland HS when measure 5 passed.

Why don't y'all look at that funding cut?

Why don't y'all look at the fact that the funding was cut to ALL of our PPS magnet programs.

MFs will complain and say the system is broken but not say shit about teachers having to purchase supplies with THEIR money?

The way we find schools makes it so the school in the neighborhood that has the most 3 car garages get more funding than the ones who have more apartments.

It's fucking stupid.

I remember my teachers buying supplies with their own money in the early 60's.

Difference was they didn't bitch and whine about it, even though they were paid peanuts compared to teachers nowadays.

Measure 5 did not cut any funding. It guaranteed a 3% hike in property taxes PLUS any local or state school levy that passed a vote. Year in, year out.

It was passed after Dems were caught illegally inflating property values in order to rob homeowners. Had it not passed, most of us would have lost our homes eventually.

Dem mismanagement killed our schools. Each school used to have 5-6 employees (plus teachers). Principal and VP, 2 secretaries/receptionists, 1 nurse and a janitor.

Now they have maybe 20-30 lazy fucks doing next to nothing depending on the school. They have "administrators taking paid trips to China and Australia to "exchange ideas". Something we all manage to do from home on the internet. You'd think schools would be the first to capitalize on the easy and massive savings there.

That's nothing, MarAzul remembers back when black people were paid nothing at all, and didn't bitch and whine about it unless they wanted a whipping.

And you were in the 8th grade?
I was in the 8th grade . . . for a few years. By the time I graduated I was smoking cigarettes and in the numbers racket. Well, that and I was selling a little protection, you know, fire insurance, broken window insurance, health insurance. life insurance, insurance against getting beat up. Sly was my muscle.

PERS is bankrupting the system. We keep passing funds for the schools and the money never actually gets there. The fucking PERS people keep intercepting it.

Yeah, let's get rid of retirement for teachers. That'll fix it.

Since that's not the solution, what's yours? All I ever hear is complaints.

The solution is remove the crooks who don’t manage our money properly, and they are Dems.

Then change the way schools are funded. Property tax based funding is asinine.

I really wish you'd stop responding to my posts.

I never care about your opinion, and I've made a point to not respond to you anymore.

Talk about pandering to your voting block.

Wait, so you conservative types now think that raising the minimum wage is a good thing, and you want it raised in rural communities?

That's very interesting.

Part of my mission statement is "Never let an untruth or misconception go unchallenged".

You can see how that makes your request impossible.

You're thinking of Portland, which has not yet attained Statehood.

Kate Brown committed a felony when she implemented her vote-buying wage-raise for Democrat-heavy voting districts while stiffing Republican-leaning communities.

Maybe someone will file a lawsuit? :dunno:

Voting.

Land doesn't vote, people do. Your votes count the same as ours, there are just more of us on this side of the mountains.

What you are actually asking for is for your vote to count more than ours. You've already got that in the US senate, don't press your luck getting it elsewhere.

Since I'm a fiscal conservative I normally don't endorse any kind of tax as a fix for government screw ups but in this case Id trade off Property Tax or State income tax for a sales tax that would be proportionate to what people spend. But the big things is we then capitalize on the tourist industry, and business travelers from other states. Plus all the lottery funds should go to schools rather than economic development which was a joke. Canadian Provincial lotteries go to their schools.

Laugh at everyone when Clinton wins the popular vote but loses election to Trump.

Whine when less people vote for Knute Buehler and lose.

This makes me giggle.

Sorry :(

Why be sorry? :dunno:

Your avatar saying the above statement makes me giggle!

Faux argument by you.

I'm asking for equal value for my local community's tax dollars.

Kate Brown is bribing/rewarding blue communities while stiffing red communities. She rigged her minimum wage to steal our jobs and leave us struggling to keep our homes.

All working Oregonians pay taxes, but Kate Brown spends it all in blue communities, while stealing from red communities.

She won't even talk to her citizens on this side of the mountains. She comes to Bend about once a year to huddle with bankers and developers in unannounced closed "meetings", refusing calls for a town hall or even a quick question and answer opportunity.

Are you actually claiming that companies are moving jobs from La Pine to Portland because Portland has a higher minimum wage?
And that argument makes sense to you?

All working Oregonians pay taxes, but Kate Brown spends it all in blue communities, while stealing from red communities.

Rural people are net takers and always have been. You've got it completely backwards, as per usual.

Can't imagine why.

PERS is bankrupting the system. We keep passing funds for the schools and the money never actually gets there. The fucking PERS people keep intercepting it.
I thought that was carefully explained.
Somebody said that we funded PERS at just over 80%, an exceptional rate. Kentucky funds at a rate of approximately 30%, now they've got trouble.

Not a complaint. It's a fact

https://www.oregonlive.com/business/index.ssf/2017/09/pers_oregon_pension_deficit_cl.html

Oregon’s public pension deficit has grown to $25.3 billion, which means schools and local and state governments will need to drain an additional $1.4 billion from their projected 2019-21 budgets to feed the pension beast, according to a new valuation by the system’s actuary.

Though another round of contribution increases was widely expected, the amount is much higher than employers had been led to expect and comes on top of the $900 million jump included in the current two-year budget cycle.

Sooooo no solution?

Am I supposed to come up with a solution to a problem that was created by the Democrats? Does that make any sense?

So they fuck it up, they have had decades to fix it, and you blame Republicans for not coming up with a solution to the problem?

Edit - I'll rephrase this - PERS has been around for a long time, but we have known about this issue for decades. It was clear that the system was going to be overtaxed because of the baby boomers, and nothing has been done to fix the problem. And during the past 30+ years the Democrats have had the run of the house so it was on them to come up with something.
